I always have a regular 26 day cycle. Regular as clockwork in fact...BUT...this month on day 25 there was the tiniest amount of pinkish CM when I went to the toilet before bed so I thought that it was the beginning of AF. But its now day 27 and still have had no more than the tiniest occasional pink/brown cm..not even enough to show when i wipe. (sorry if tmi). Very very slight stomach cramp..and just don't 'feel' like its totm. Haven't done a test yet as not sure if it would even show yet? Am i being too optimistic? Also, even if i did a test, would it need to be first thing in the morning? I'm really trying to avoid getting into the cycle of constantly testing and feeling let down.

I came off the pill 8 months ago..

Hi Sugar,

I know what you mean about not wanting to test too early. The tests can work from quite early on but you can get a false negative. I apologise for going a bit 'sciencey' but it depends on when you ovulated really. Also apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know. In general the time between you ovulate and when AF comes will be the same each month. So if you have a 26 day cycle let's say if you ovulate on day 13, you would be 13 days post ovulation now. That is still quite early for a positive test I would say (although you might well get one).

The other thing is that you could have just ovulated late. I always had a regular as clockwork 28 day cycle but then this month ovulated about a week late (I know this because I was charting temperatures), so when AF didn't arrive I wasn't too excited as I knew it was because I had ovulated late. As far as I know this is the first time I might have ovulated so late and can't work out what the reason would be for that!

If you could hold out for a day or two more before testing you'd increase the chance of getting a correct BFP (ie avoiding a false negative, obv it can't increase the chance of getting a bfp, you're either up the duff or not by now Wink).

Hope that is a little bit helpful.

It's a really tough decision as to when to test or not as it is such a roller coaster getting negatives that you don't believe but equally horrid just not knowing!

xx

Hi Biscuit,

I don't chart my temperature as I am trying to keep ttc as low key as possible if you know what I mean. I always start to have have ewcm on day 9 and this stops on day 12 and that was the same this month. To be honest, i am not getting my hopes up as i'm not getting any younger :) and I understand that cycles can change it's just that this is very strange for me.

Thanks for your response...I need to keep some perspective on this :) haven't even mentioned any of this to hubby!

Oh I totally understand trying to keep it low key! Very wise indeed (we have been ttc for 19 months and I only started charting about 3 mths ago out of desperation.

Certainly sounds promising if ewcm was the same time as usual though and you're late now.

I saw some stats on another thread last week about how many positives show up as positive x days after ovulation:

  • 35% at 10dpo
  • 51% at 11dpo
  • 62% at 12dpo
  • 68% at 13dpo
  • 74% at 14dpo
  • 80% at 15dpo
  • 88% at 16dpo
  • 92% at 17dpo

I don't know what the original source of those figures is though, or how reliable they are (but that you to Screamifyouwanttogofaster as I just copied them off the post she made last week Grin).

So based on those at 13/14 dpo there are still a substantial number of actual pregnancies that fail to test positive (iyswim). However, there are a lot of pregnancies that test positive!

I guess it just comes down to whether you find it more frustrating to wait or not!

    Good luck though xx
