hello ladies, I just wondered if anyone had tried using their husbands sperm sample at home to get pregnant. If so did it work? Any tips? The pressure of trying to conceive has led my husband to not be able to produce sperm when we have sex. This is something that has been going on for months sadly. Yet he did manage to produce a sperm sample for the doctors, which amazed me and frustrated me. Anyone else struggling with this problem from their husband and did collecting their sperm in a pot help? then using a syringe to insert sperm into your vagina work?
Thanks.

There was a thread about this recently so it might be worth doing a search. It may have been a month or so ago, but there were tips on there and a fair few people had done it.

Hi maximum,

Both my pregnancies where concieved using home insemination, I am currently 26 weeks with my second, so yes it is possible. My husband collected his sperm in a pot and then used a pipette to insert sperm in my vagina. They do say that it is good to orgasm when this is done if you are able it certainly will make it easier to insert something in you vagina if you are aroused, but do not use lubricant, most are damaging to the sperm I know there is one that is not. If you have any toher questions you can PM me.

Hi, we have the same issue at times. We do this sometimes aka 'the alternative method'. DH explained that producing a sample is very functional. He finds the pressure of ttc makes him stressed and sometimes loses his erection.
Have the doctors tested his bloods? Low prolactin levels can cause low mood and problems with erections...
On a practical note, I try to reduce the pressure by continually luring DH to bed but not saying.if I'm fertile. We cuddle, talk or have massages which sometimes leads to swi but isn't expected (if he thinks he has to he just can't!). Sometimes if he's sure he can't perform he'll suggest he provides a sample instead. Hope that helps and you realise you're by no means alone!

Ah thanks ladies that's so supportive to hear your views. My husband got romantic with a pot and we tried the alternative method! Sorry for too much info. So the next two weeks will let us know how it went. Just spent forty minutes with legs in air, not very gracious, but hoped to help the little swimmers. So nervous now. Really praying as had a tough time waiting. As am sure you ladies can relate to. We do believe in prayer. X will let you know how it goes. We should know by 10th august. I think when you have been trying for a while you just expect to not be pregnant.

Hi, just wanted to say that I hope this works for you. Just thought would tell you that I got pregnant via Ai although it took a couple of months/trys and I was using donor sperm so made it a bit harder to get things right, I bought my syringes etc from a website called Pride Angel, they have a shop with a range of kits etc to aid the whole process. Hopefully you wont need this next month but just in case may be worth you checking the website out (they recently also did a blog on home AI) hope you dont need it but if you do the website link is www.prideangel.com Good luck to you both let us know how you get on, fingers crossed xxx

Just a progress report it has not worked the lovely self insemination. Will give it another go another cycle, mixed with shag o thon august and will see what news that brings. Sorry to be so crude, then if nothing it's the ivf road for us full speed ahead. As that will be fifteen months with no smudge of hope of pregnancy. Ooo I hate what infertility does to people grrrrr. Thanks for you support on this thread. X

Hello maximum.
We are trying AI too. Just wanted to say you aren't alone - we've been trying for 18 months but only the last few with the pot. My DH can masturbate and then come inside me. We have only just worked out, thanks to mumsnet, that you have to wait 5 - 10 mins for the sperm to liquidfy.
Good luck.

slightly different but yes, both me and dp got pregnant through home insemination (with the help of our lovely sperm donor friend). We probably used the sperm about 15 - 20 minutes after it was produced - it was kept in a yoghurt pot and we used a syringe. Dp got pregnant after 2 months - took me longer at 19 months but still, it worked!

So, good luck! Grin

Wow in real shock home insemination worked for us first time. Just got our BfP after sixteen months of trying.and I really thought it had not worked. It was only a missed period that alerted me. Can't believe it. Really really pray it happens soon for others who read this. Thanks for advice.

maximum - wow! that's great. Congrats. Worked for us too (same scenario as dottydot); took 5 goes, then mmc, then 2 goes (DD1), this time around, 3rd time lucky (DD2 due in December).

I knew was years a go...But how you exactly did your home insimination?
I am hoping do that next week and I order a speculum today (still need order the rest of other stuffs).
My hubby and I has trying and I HAS BEEN so Sad when my AF arrived past months. I am mother of 9 years old daughter with my first husband--Now, my hubby now did a test and all looks Normal.
So..I would like to know how many times you inject the sperm inside? How far you go? (Did you inject alway inside the cevix?)
Thank you.
Sorry for my broke english:^(Smile

Just tried it this morning so will have to wait a few weeks and see! Just bought some syringes and sterile pots from amazon and did it that way. OH sometimes finds it hard finishing inside me so thought we’d try it this way. Was pretty easy to do so hoping we get the result we want. I think we’ll keep doing it this way when we can as it takes some of the pressure off actually DTD.

Yeah I totally agree- I think this is an issue for a lot of people tbh. I did it Monday & this evening so fingers crossed. I'm currently taking letrozole so hopefully that gives me a little edge! Good luck- let me know how you get on!!

Keeping everything crossed for us both! I told OH that there were loads of people online who had similar issues and he really cheered up about it all. I think he’s pleased we’ve found an alternative way that he can still perform.

Hi im still trying conceive thru home insemination.. But i feel leakage while take out syringe.. And i feel hurt if use softcup.. Any suggestion? Its normal leak out during take out syringe?

Report
ttcchapter1 · 05/03/2020 14:59

@Selves03

I was having a lot of leakage too, i then started leaving the syringe in place for atleast 30 mins and using two pillows to stay elevated! And it really cut down on the amount of leakage. Good luck.

Hi @Selve03 - I'm currently 5.5weeks, conceived by home insemination (I have vaginismus, so the usual way wasn't going to work for us!). Don't worry about leakage - I put two pillows under my hips, did the syringe, removed it, got OH to give me a big O (I read it helps, but it did make it feel less clinical!) and then gave it 5 mins before getting up.

ttcchapter1 · 06/03/2020 20:03

@Selve03 this is kind of my first cycle properly trying! So hoping i do conceive this way.

@SJChief omg congratulations! So so happy for you. How long did you lie down for after it? And did you always O after, how many cycles did you try and how many times per cycle? Sorry, im so intrigued and have so many questions 🙈 i inseminated 8 times this month and now in tww.

SJChief · 06/03/2020 20:10

@ttchapter1 - no worries! I feel incredibly lucky as I'm in my mid-thirties and this is first baby - had talked myself into expecting much longer wait.

Tried for two cycles - first cycle had CP, second cycle is sticky so far (keep fingers crossed for me!). Each cycle tried for 10-13 days, which might have been overkill but I was having difficulty pinpointing ovulation.

I always started propped up, pushed the syringe slowly, then removed after about 30 secs. Then always O (even if takes a while, and definitely no internal stuff) and then 5 mins before getting on with things...

I did so much research on it all before we started and there's so much contradictory advice, but so far it's worked for us!
