Mirena coil advice - help please!

I had the Mirena coil fitted in January 2009 and it did exactly what it said on the tin, AF stopped, which is what I wanted it for! About a month ago I had a really bad backache which then moved down to my lower stomach, the stabbing pain was that bad I almost cried but I just put it down to a water infection as I also had what felt like cystitis at the same time. About 3 weeks ago I started bleeding, this fluctuated between brown blood and bright red blood for a week. Then about 2 weeks ago started to feel sick on and off throughout the day. This hasn't stopped :(

My coil is still in place as I checked the day before last but I feel ill still. I also haven't been hungry for over a week and have barely eaten, and songs/tv shows that I can usually listen to or watch with no problems have made me well up.

I tried to talk to my DH last night about it but all he could say was "It's not mine if you are, we haven't done anything" Which is bullshit. I obviously don't want to be PG otherwise I wouldn't have the coil fitted! His attitude really pissed me off as I'm worried and he is the only person I can talk to about it. Thank god for MN!

This is all strange as with all 4 of my DC pregnancy's I never had sickness or got emotional so I don't know why I am thinking I am PG but something just isn't right.....

Is it POSSIBLE to get pg with the coil still in situ?

It is possible to get pregnant with the coil in place as nothing is 100% but it's unusual with a Mirena. FWIW I'm on my second now and love it but do manage to convince myself that I'm prengnant approx every 6 months, I keep a stash of tests for those moments. Do a test and make an appointment to have your coil checked with your GP. Then when everything is fine you can sit back and work out what to slap your DH round the face with for being an insensitive twunt!

Hi, as lostin said the chances of you being pregnant with mirena are very small (though of course not impossible), however with any type of coil there is a slight increased risk of pelvic infections and I think also ectopic pregnancy. I have also heard of coils moving a bit and causing pain. I would strongly recommend that if you are getting sickness, pain and bleeding you should go and see your gp just to get checked out.

I had the very same thing you are describing And it turned out to be ovarian cysts. Dr said the Coil causes them and they are harmless and will disappear when coil is taken out . I also thought I was pg when i got the symptoms Confused

I would make a wee dr appointment anyway just for peace of mind really . Smile

I had very similar, also sickness and dizziness, also turned out to be cysts on my ovaries which had got infected, one possibly burst. A course of industrial strength antibiotics sorted it within a week :)
