I have been ttc since September 2010 and have had 2 m/c's so far.

This will be cycle 5 since my last m/c and I wanted to give my body a bit of help.

I have a very messed up diet. I eat freshly cooked food, veg etc most nights for dinner and eat breakfast most mornings but I do skip lunch quite a lot or eat something snack like and I do eat an awful lot of choc, cakes etc (I am 8 stone so not overweight so tend not to bother about eating that stuff).

I was thinking about taking prenatal vitamins like Pregnacare but I am a worrier and don't want to take something that may be dangerous. I don't want to go to the doctor as when I go with things like this, he makes me feel as if I am wasting his time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can get pregnacare conception or I use the boots own pre conception tablets myself as they are loads cheaper. Everything in them is safe to take when ttc and they have the right level of folic acid too. (sorry if i am telling you what you already know). If you have a good diet you may well only need to take folic acid and you should take this pre conception anyway (are you already taking that?)

Pregnacare is very expensive cos they cash in on your insecurities! as ciwi says, Folic acid is the only important one really (which is pretty cheap). I take the boots ones cos they're less than half the price of pregnacare for the same contents. I take them for peace of mind more than anything else.

I am already taking folic acid and have been since Aug 10. Should I just carrying on taking that or try the pregnacare (or boots equivalent).

I just never know what to do for best.

I know exactly what you mean forest about vits, my MW and GP have always said only Folic Acid is needed but have read and been advised that Vitamin D is also good. I take them for peace of mind (but only took folic acid with DS) however 2nd time round i'm finding it a lot more difficult so thinking the vits might help!

I've had 4 miscarriages and I've been advised to take pregnacare plus and 25micg of vit d3. You can get pregnacare much cheaper on amazon. I understand the need to feel like you're doing something I didn't bother with prenatal supplements (other than folic acid) until my third mc. I don't think they make a jot of difference in helping you get pregnant but may give some peace of mind that your body has everything it needs once you are pregnant. And peace of mind is very important.

digital do you take the 25mcg of vitamin D3 in addition to the Vitamin D that's in pregnacare or is it included?

Yes - I do take 25mig on top of pregnacare. I know there's 10mig in Pregnacare already but my consultant said to take both.

Thanks digital i've only seen tabs of 10mcg of Vitamin D, do you know where sells 25mcg (am I right in assuming that Vitamin D and D3 are one and the same?)

No, vit d3 is different to vit d. I think d3 absorbs easier. I got mine from Holland & Barratt.

Hi! You should start taking prenatal vitamins even before you are pregnant and are trying to conceive as a healthy body will lead to a healthy pregnancy and eventually, a healthy baby. Prenatal vitamins that contain minerals like Iron, Folic Acid and Calcium are useful for a smooth pregnancy and a healthy baby. Folic acid helps prevent birth defects, iron helps decrease the risk of pre mature delivery and low birth weight while calcium plays a vital role in building stronger bones and keeping them healthy.
