Clomid & progesterone for Luteal phase defect?

I have been reading up on the web about this, and as a persistent 'spotter' (as early as 3dpo) I am wondering if anyone on here has been perscribed either or both of the above specifically for LPD?

This was what has prompted me to ask:

Hello heatherbee36
I, like you, persistently spot from 3-5 dpo and have a total luteal phase of 8-10 days. I hadn't been trying long (4 months!) but because I also have PCOS I got referred to a fertility consultant. The consultant told me that the spotting itself would not inhibit my ability to get pregnant - neither would my luteal phase.
There's an awful lot of conflicting evidence out there but the UK medical community tends to take the view that studies show the same pregnancy rate in people with short luteal phases as with 'normal' ones (there's more about it in the NICE guidelines if you're interested!)
Anyway - I was really keen to see if Clomid would have any effect as I also O late (cd 25 typically) so my total cycle lengths were on the longer side - plus I thought that having a longer LP definitely couldn't hurt!
My first cycle on 50mg led to O on cd23 and an LP of 10 days. So no real difference. This cycle I took 100mg and am on cd13 today.

Hi MrsHY1 Thank you for sharing your experience- it is always good to hear that spotting and a shorter LP should not inhibit chances of conceiving, however, I just somehow feel this really is stopping me conceiving as, as I perceive it, the spotting is suggests that the body is already preparing for menstruation and I don't understand how the egg has enough time to properly implant itself?

I usually O around days 12-14 (I have been using OPK's) with a cycle that ranges from 28 to 32 days

Can I ask, do you have other symptoms with your early spotting such as cramping? I get severe cramping, joint pain and very, very low mood (it was so horrendous this month)

I am going to see my GP on Tuesday and ask about the benefits of taking progesterone and to discuss the benefits of Clomid. I will let you know how I get on!

This is also interesting:

and this info and chart about spotting before a period:

Thanks once again for sharing and I wish you all the luck in the world! smile xx
