Dsis in Prague, 4th cycle IVF, just diagnosed with severe OHSS

I'm really worried about her. Numerous issues. Has had tubes removed due to damage from PID. First cycle produced 5/6 egg 1 embryo transfer and failed. Started bleeding very early on. 2nd cycle cancelled due to massive OHSS. 3rd cycle, 5/6 eggs, 2 embryo transferred, positive test followed by period next day.

She is now in Prague for 4th cycle. Her dh has rheumathoid artheritis (sp?) and got shingles this week she had 19 follicles but had 10 eggs collected. Sperm sample was v bad quality and quantity so they did ICSI. 6 fertilised.

She has been in agony since egg collection, vomiting etc, has been diagnosed with OHSS. From what I've been reading on line it looks like they will be unable to continue now. If any embryos survive they will have to be frozen.

Sorry this is so long. I am utterly devastated for her. Do you think there is a problem with her egg reserve? What can she possibly do now??

I feel so useless Sad. she is only 26.

It sounds like she has a polycystic ovarian type response where she either only gets a few eggs or she goes way over the top. At least she will have a chance with her frozen embryos once her hormone levels fall.
It isn't a problem with her reserve, but a problem with her response to the drugs. Sadly some ladies do react badly to the stimulation.

I'm so sorry she is having such a rough ride. Hope she is better soon.

What if there is nothing to freeze? Sad if only 6 fertilised out of 10 with ICSI then surely the odds aren't great?

Thanks for the reply, am pretty distressed here

Where I work if we are not able to do a fresh transfer we freeze everything.

It is hard to comment on the specifics of your sister's case especially as she is having treatment abroad - it can be VERY different. However 6/10 fertilised is a good result especially if the sperm sample was very poor.

I really hope it all works out for her, I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Sometimes this is the way people respond to the drugs, and it is a known complication with IVF. I realise this is no consolation.

I'm really sorry I don't know anything about this but I wish your sister all the best and I hope she feels better soon x

Thanks for replying. It's so awful. I am really worried about how she is going to cope this time. Sad
