Just been referred back to fertility clinic, possibly not ovulating

Hello all, am hoping the wisdom of MN can help.

Long story but it took my DH and I a very long time to conceive our DD and we had previously been referred to the fertility clinic where a possible cause was my very irregular periods (ranging from 26 to 56 days) and there was a strong indication that I was not ovulating every cycle. DH checked out- no probs.

Of course, as these things often go, the day of our appointment I became PG (which ended in a MC but then became PG on the next cycle) so we never got started with the investigation process!

In view to thinking about another DC I have been to and from the doctors and had the usual day 21 tests and so on (cycles ranging again from 26 to 56 days) and indications again to not ovulating.

DD still very young, but thinking ahead and wanting to get investigations started I have been referred back to the clinic.

My question is really, what to expect? I think I will probably have the checks for a blocked fallopian tube (what does that involve?) but am wondering if perhaps they will try to medically manage my cycles/ovulation.

What experiences do you have? Any stories to share, or is anyone going through similar?

Not sure how I feel at the moment, a bit all over the place but hopeful!

Hi, I have been investigated for secondary infertility and my consultant did basic bloods at beginning of my cycle, and 7 days after ovulation, as well as checking my AMH levels which is an indication of ovarian reserve. I also had a scan to check the lining of my womb, looked at my ovaries and did a count of the follicles, I think it was called andrial count or something like that. I also had an HSG to look at the inside of the uterus in more detail and checked to see if my tubes were blocked. This test is very straight forward, I took some painkillers before hand, and it is like having a smear test really, but took a bit longer, maybe 10 minutes, I was then given antibiotics afterwards to reduce the risk of infection.

I would have thought that once all this is done your consultant would be able to understand exactly what is going on, as for example there is little point getting ovulation sorted if your tubes are blocked.

Thanks so much for replying helen am not looking forward to all the poking and prodding but needs must.

I wonder if there is another thread discussing these sorts of issues? Could do with some virtual hand holding!!

Just to re-iterate what Helen said, I am in a civil partnership so my DW and I are using a fertility clinic to ttc.
They do all your bloods & an internal scan (mine was on cd3) where they checked my womb lining, etc and noticed I had an endometriomic (sp?) cyst on one of my ovaries then referred me for a HSG - it really wasn't as bad as it sounds! I didn't take any painkillers (because I forgot!) was offered some by the consultant but didn't need them, just had some mild period-like cramping and felt a bit tender for a day or so.
