How long did it take for you?

Me and hubby have been "trying" for a baby for a year now and unfortunately still no luck. Admittedly we were not particularly focused (!) at the beginning but now we are fully temping and opking and still bfn.
my logical side knows that this doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong. I've just turned thirty so that will reduce our chances per cycle too.

I guess I just wanted a quick straw poll of mumsnetters to see what the average is for people. So...... How long did it take for you?

DC1 12 months
DC2 1 month
DC3 2 years
DC4 2 years and counting Hmm

Don't know why dc2 was so keen.

I was 25 when we started. I'm 35 now and giving up soon.

18 months ttc#1 still waiting for that elusive bfp. I was on cerazette not sure if that's had an impact. We're now looking at a ?pcos diagnosis for me and DH.needs to repeat his sperm sample as his swimmers weren't going in straight lines. Could explain a few things!

It's normal for it to take a year to two years in a fertile couple but if you're 30 and it has been a year, then I'd see the GP and just start with the first basic tests if you haven't already.

It took 14 months, then a miscarriage and a couple of chemical pregnancies to get and stay pregnant with dd. I am fertile and healthy (as is dh) and was 25yrs old at the time.

1st - month 1
2nd (due Oct) - month 2

Mind you before TTCing no.1 I came off the Pill about a year before we started TTCing - and it took my body a LONG time to get back to normal. Had I come off just before TTCing I am sure DD would have taken longer.

ds took one month
no2 we've been trying for 14 months, all tests so far say we're healthy but nothing yet?
Am 36 though so who knows how that affects things.
If you've been trying for a year I second the opinion to go to the docs just to get your bloods and dp's sperm tested.

Nearly a year from stopping the pill. It wasn't until a friend suggested trying on the last day of my period that I fell pregnant (worked for her and her sister too), it worked on our first attempt!

Hi, dont be disheartened we are all different, have you tried using ovulation predictors? I used them and also some vitamins, Vitafem, meant to boost fertility (bought both online from a website called Pride Angel)
Anyway

DD aged 26 5 months
DS aged 31 5 months
DS2 aged 36 1 month
DD2 aged 40 3 months

So don't dive up, I was 40 when I had my last baby (no more for me now) so there is hope for you yet you are still only young!!

Good luck xx

42 months, IUI pregnancy (am 31 weeks today.) Was 30 when we started trying, am 34 now.
There's help out there if you need it - go and talk to your GP if you're worried. It's better to get the process started earlier than later.
I can tell you though it took my body nearly two years to get back into any vague semblance of a cycle after stopping the pill (but that's why I needed fertility treatment, as the pill had been masking all sorts of issues - to the point where I needn't have remembered to take the fecking thing for 13 years!!)
Good luck :)

Some of my friends have been trying for a lot longer, up to 2 years to conceive.

Good luck, hope it happens soon for you :)

About 15 months with my DD and DS (due in July). I am 39. Frequency seems to play a role, as did not counting too closely (i.e. just doing it every day). Have to admit it didn't make for great sex and it all felt rather utilitarian but it's the results that count! Did get rather worried about getting too old when trying to conceive my DS so had the tests done at my doctors but got the results back (all fine) the same day I found out I was pregnant.

Ninjachipmunk and showofhands - We've been thinking about going to see the GP as well but personally I've been really nervous about it as I thought it would make it feel more like there was a "problem".
looking back through my diary it's probably been just over ten and a half months so far so we have decided to just see how it goes for the next cycle and if no luck we'll be making an appointment then.
Thanks for all the replies......... it's so nice to hear from other people who have had different experiences as I find it a private issue and don't talk to many people in real life about it.

Fingers crossed !!!
