Sex on day 19 of my 32-day cycle... what are the odds?!

Hi everyone!

My DH and I are kind of trying to conceive (if you know what I mean!) and I have a couple of questions for you wise ladies.

We had unprotected sex on day 19 of my 32 day cycle and I'm wondering what is the likelihood of me getting (already being?!) pregnant! Also I'd like to know when is the earliest I should test.

I know there is probably a question like this every 5 minutes on MN but I would really appreciate your knowledgeable opinions and thoughts!

Thanks a lot!

Good chance I'd say. Might be a day or so late for ov, in which case no dice. Better to have sex before not after. Even better to have sex every 2 or 3 days through the whole cycle, but that can be tricky!

But if you were trying to avoid a pregnancy, you'd be panicking!

Hi there

Typically a woman ovulates 14 days before the start of her menstrual period regardless of cycle length, and can be fertile from about 3 days before ovulation to 1 day after. So if your period is due on day 33 you likely ovulate around day 19, so you could well be. However, it does vary from woman to woman so your best bet (and what is recommended by the NHS) is to make love regularly throughout the month to make sure you have all bases covered.

Good luck x

We are definately not trying to avoid pregnancy. We are now both very excited about the prospect of me being pregnant. I just don't want to get too excited and I don't know when the earliest I can test is!

Thanks for your good wishes and prompt replies!

Good luck broody. I would say you should test the morning your period is due at earliest. You might get an accurate result testing before but early testing is not a good habit to get in to!

Test the day your period is due. You can test a few days before with early detection tests but their reliability is 99% on the day you are due.

I agree with Ravenlocks early testing can become addictive! My DH puts up with it but it's not helpful. As the ladies above say, there is a good chance you could have conceived at that point. All the best!

Fingers crossed for you broody, I've taken heed of the MNs and whilst I've bought early response test kits I'm trying to wait until I'm due. I'm guessing you can become obsessed by trying to test as early as pos and I'm easily obsessed so setting myself a strict rule (until I can't wait any longerBlush)
