Hi All,

This is my first ever post on MN, so firstly a big Hello!

My DD was born in Feb and we'd really like to start TTC no 2 as soon as possible but there's still no signs of my AF returning.

Is there anything I can do to give mother nature a bit of a nudge other than giving up BF? I'm going back to work in Jan and I just don't want to let go of the closeness it brings us just yet.

Hello and welcome to MN :)

I am bf and had my first period at 6 weeks, 2nd at 8weeks, also i have seen a lot of people on her pregnant and brestfeeding so i dont think bf is the problem.

I would go to the GP to find out if there is anything you can do to kick start yuor TTC. Good luck x

I gave up BF when my son was 19 months old but didn't get my first period for another 3 months (after I had come off the pill) plus I was only BF once a day since he was 11 months old. I think everyone is different!

DrewsGirl I've read that BFing does delay the return of periods in some people, but as TerrysNo2 says it's different for everyone and you were just lucky/unlucky depending on your point of view!

But have taken your advice and booked an appointment with GP. Blimey, if you'd told me a couple of years ago I'd be desperate for AF to appear I'd have thought you were mad! Grin

According to (I think) the Kellymom website, if you make a dramatic change to your breastfeeding pattern, that can kick start your return to fertility. Suddenly cutting out two or three daytime feeds, which you may do anyway when you go back to work might do it, or nightweaning if you haven't already.

We have a thread for TTC while BF, you could come over and ask your question there if you like. I think a few people on there had their periods return when their DCs were 20 months.

It would be interesting to know what the Dr says and whether he or she is at all supportive!

Thanks Silkenladder have just found this thread!

I only BF three times a day - first thing, mid afternoon and before bed and haven't fed DD during the night in about 4 months. But I'll have to drop the mid afternoon feed when I go back to work so hopefully this will help get things moving.

Will keep you posted on GP's advice.

HI all I'm new and wanted to say hi. As a mom of 3, all bf I got AF after 6 weeks again after 6 months and again after 8 months. Everyone's body is different. I believe that BF will definitely slow things down. Also don't forget that your body has undergone trauma it needs time to heal. Jumping into things sooo soon can cause miscarriage.
