Hi just wonder if anybody can help, I had my first fertility appointment a couple of weeks ago with an initial consultant - he took both mine and partners history etc done a quick examination and then im booked in for my internal scan next week and HCG.....which I feel positive im finially getting to look into things after 17months but he said then the next fertility appointment will be in 3 months!! ok this is fine as i know the NHS is busy and lots of people wanting these appointments but so my question is will I need to wait till this appointment in February until they will go through my results and any treatment I need to be discussed? can anybody help just seems three months is a long time?

They should be able to give you the results of both the HSG and internal scan at the time these are done.

They should also be testing your man in conjunction with your own tests; it is little point in solely testing you only to discover at a much later date there are also male factor problems.

I would also ask if it is possible to be seen earlier than Feb with regards to your next appt. You need continuity of care as much as anything else.

Thanks for your response Attila and the info very kind of you to reply.... my DH had a test before and it was a little below average but doctor said was ok, but he is going to do another test next week as well as the doctor said to do another one.

Thanks will ask if I can be seen earlier than the 3 month next appointment

How long have you been trying?

Hi, 12 weeks is how long we had to wait for tests, then they gave us more tests... took 11 months before nhs dr (well saw different one each time) spoke about treatment - although they said keep trying for another 6nmths then come back!! Each wait was 8-12 weeks for us on nhs.

Though repeating my bloods and dh's SA was helpful to find out what the issue/s were.

We have had to wait 4 months, it's been a long one.

Hi, from initial GP appt to referral we had to wait 11 weeks, but then the appt was cancelled with 2 days notice. I then had to re-arrange, which was then another 8 week wait. Had initial appt to see Consultant who quickly went through histories and then asked us to go away and have bloods done again and SA done and next appt was made - earlier available appt was in 13 weeks time (with a fertility nurse). So hopefully, if the appt does not get cancelled, we will have some indication if there is a problem and what the next steps are.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the NHS. The people at the clinic were amazing and I realise we're lucky to have some treatment. However, ask me again after this next appt when they let us know IF we are eligible for treatment, as DH already has children and we live in a different county to the hospital. (Our local hospital offers no fertility treatment).

Good luck and I hope all goes well for you x

Greeneyesbigbottom - if you look up NICE guidelines it may help you know about treatment etc..? All the best.
