Should I go to my GP?

Hi there,

I've been trying to get pregnant with my partner for 8 months with no successs. We have regular sex and lead a relatively healthy lifesstyle but it's just not happening for some reason.

I'm 35 in 3 weeks and my partner is 33. I was just wondering how long I should wait before going to the GP to see about tests. I know they usually say that you should only go if you've been trying for a year+ with no joy but would my age make a difference to that?

Any help/advice anyone could give me would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Odette

My SIL tried for 2 years to get pregnant. Went to a naturopath/GP and was told she had a hormonal imbalance. She was put on a herbal supplement (something very basic like primrose oil or more magnesium or something - not a freaky herbal remedy or anything) and she fell pregnant within 2-3 months of commencing the supplements. It could be something very basic that is preventing you from falling pregnant so I would definitely go to the GP for a check-up.

Good luck

Yes do, and tell them you have been trying a year as that will encourage them to give you the tests :)

my cousin is 18 and told me in june she had been with her partner 11 month and never used contraception (silly i know) but anyway shes pregnant now, it can take some people time, even her at 18, my mum it took 2 year. but if you want to go and get checked out then you should, yes and i would tell them a year aswell. im sure your fine though. good luck :)

Hi there,

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately, I can't tell my GP that we've been trying for a year as he took my coil out last December so he knows that that isn't true Blush.

I might just make an appointment anyway and see what he says.

Thanks
Odette

i was gonna say do you get your conraception from your doctor. well just see what they say, theyl probably reassure you that your fine, but if you feel theres more to it just push it. but im sure you will be ok.
good luck again :)

Hi odette

I think I'm right in saying that once you are 35 you can see the GP after 6 months of trying. That's certainly the case where I live. I went after 5 and half months and just said it was 6 Wink

Good luck
