Anyone else on metformin?

I just wondered if anyone has any success stories about taking Metformin. I am ttc baby no2. I have Polycystic ovaries and Clomid worked the first time but I seem to have become resistant to it and it isn't making me ovulate this time. I have been on metformin for 6 weeks and it has given me a period (I usually have about 2 a year) so I'm hopeful that something might be happening.
I'm very down at the moment because 3 of my friends have announced that they are expecting baby number 2 in the last few weeks and it would be good to know if anyone has conceived using metformin.

Isn't metformin primarily a drug used in the treatment of type 2 (NIDDM) diabetes ?

Have no personal experience of this myself but it looks like metformin is fairly efficient at treating PCOS, so hopefully by helping to relieve the condition you'll also be increasing your fertility levels.

Hi Kiransmum

I'm on metformin aswell - for PCOS, and have been given it specifically to help me ovulate, which I hope I now am doing!

My day 21 progesterone test before I started taking Metformin was 19 (I think below 20 = not ovulating), and my day 21 test just recently was 32.9 (ovulating!).

So, although I'm not pregnant yet, I think there's more hope now! I've been on it for about 4 months, but have only just been able to start ttc.

I too am on Metformin and have had much more frequent periods. Used to be 2 a year, now having them day 30 or 40, longest 60. I was convinced I was pregnant three months ago ... but I came on. On Thursday I'm supposed to start on the fertility treatment but will be sent away for a while as I am too heavy ....

HI yes I am taking metformin and have started having more regular cycles. The other thing is to eat a very low cabohydrate diet. People with pcos have trouble digesting insulin and that is what causes us to put on weight or not lose it. It is so hard when everyone is pregnant and your not. We are on the donor IVF waiting list and last year about 5 months on the run we knew friends were expecting so i know how awful you feel.
