How to win MN competitions

Try entering! I did and have won two this year already . So won't be entering any more for a while. Now the fields open, just do it .

Would be interested to know how many people normally enter, Champs. Was I just unreasonably lucky, or short odds?

you are just unreasonably lucky, jamiesam.

I can never think of anything for the comps though, wether it be a review or a tip, my mind just goes blank.

SenoraPostrophe · 14/03/2005 22:56

mind you, I only enter when the comp is something that I can use (eg. not a London musical) and when I have something I can review. So I only enter about 40%

More expat-friendly prizes please champs!

Thanks Senora

Nutcracker. I did a ludicrous recipe to win the Chef on Board comp. Now want to see the '10 min' recipes so I can try and think of something decent to add.

Misdee has won twice too. She was so chuffed when I phoned her and told her this morning (coz she has been offline for a few days) and was going "realllllly!!!!!" lol

I don't enter every comp. though - had about a 40% hit rate I think!

I always forget to enter them - there should be a link to them from Talk! ( if there already is...!)

I've been on Mumsnet for 4 years and haven't won anything!

Perhaps they should pick the winners from paid up subcribers only!

i have entered something between 6-10 comps on here, and won twice. i dont always enter as i cant always do the reviews they want, or have no tips to offer.

I've won three competitions, over the last couple of years or so. I enter about 30% of the competitions on here, maybe less. I don't have babies or toddlers so many prizes are inappropriate, and we're fairly geographically remote, so lots of prizes are not suitable for us.

So I reckon I've got a pretty good strike rate too

I haven't won one for ages though - nearly a year I reckon - so I think it's my turn again now!

good luck roisin - this week's comp sounds a promising one for you.

jamiesam -- I dont choose winners and i so dont know how many people enter, I will ask MNHQ to have a lok at this thread.

SenoraPostrophe -- what types of comps would be enterable for you? would the ones that are for products as opposed to days out be ones that you could enter?

Hunkermunker -- (hi!!) I do post comps details on talk every week, how about if I bump midweek? and also do a last day reminder? would that help?

Champs, yes! That would be fab

Congratulations Tigermoth! This looks great - hope you enjoy it.

they wouldn't be allowed to pick the winners from 'paid-up subscribers' only allibubbles - that would be illegal as it would make it a lottery and it would come under the 'lotteries and gaming act' and they'd have to offer a plain paper route to make it a hybrid and bypass the regulations

there you go, another little piece of useless information for you

Also, don't forget that Mumsnet is not just about the Talk forum. There will be some members who use the other parts of the site instead - the reviews, the articles, etc. They have to have the same opportunities as the Talk members.

I've given up entering coz I've sent in so many reviews etc that I've got nothing left to enter with.

and i'm fed up with seeing nicknames who have never posted anything on here win.

Report
champs · 19/03/2005 13:28

emmatmg -- dont be put off, some people may change their nicknames for competitions, or they may have changed their name for a particular thread and forgot to change back when they entered the comp. this has happened quite a few times.

Do I just send in a reivew / recipe or whatever, and then get automatically entered? Or do I need to fill in a competition entry form?

Is it then luck who wins, or do MNHQ pick the best review / recipe or whatever?
