Do girls continue to grow after their periods start?

I think my dd is starting puberty - she's starting to get sweaty, some spots ad she definitely moody. I've read somewhere that once her periods start she will stop growing. Is this true cos although she's tall at the moment it wouldn't be considered tall enough for an adult.

I started mine at age 11 and dont think I stopped growing as I am 5' 6" and I doubt I was that height at that age.

No, most girls start their periods between 11 and 16, most don't stop growing until 18 or so.

I hope so! DD is showing signs at nearly 11 and she's still small. Was expecting her to be tall like me.

That would explain why I'm only 4ft 11in!! I started mine when I was 10.

my dd is only 8 which is why I'm a bit concerned and is the height of a 10 year old. I started my periods at 10 so its likely that she will start early. But in primary school i was tall but am not any more as most girls overtook me when I was a teenager.

I know that they can give drugs to slow puberty and I wondered whether this was a bit extreme and I was worrying unnecessarily.

precocious puberty is when it occurs before the age of 7/8 - i.e. starting with breast development and pubic hair.

I have read girls carry on growing for 2 years after their periods start, which is about right for me. I started at 12 and stopped growing at 14.

My DD's periods started last feb (when she was 11.5) so nearly a year and she has grown a good few inches since then and is now taller than me.

A relation was very, very tall for her age and they wanted to bring on puberty early for her to stop her growing.

Thanks that was a useful article. I think she has started but by the sound of it she's 2 years away from starting anything.
