My 12mo dd had one bout of barking cough and was a bit bunged up a week on Wednesday but seemed fine after a couple of days. She then got a bit cranky over the weekend which turned into a bit of a high temp on Monday and was listless for a day but then was fine on Tuesday.
However, on Tuesday night she developed a high temp of 102 all through Wednesday and I spoke to the doc who said bring her in on Thursday if she still had a fever.
Of course Thursday was back her old self, laughing a playing (although was slightly off her food for the first time) so I didn't bother.
Yesterday she was fine again - no fever and pretty happy, but was still off her food bit at breakfast and lunch and by dinner would only eat a fruit pot - but still seemed really chipper. She was very tired by the evening but I put it down to an empty tummy (although she did perk up a bit after I bf her).
But today she seemed really unhappy after breakfast and a long milk feed and vomited everywhere about an hour after. She then cried until we put her down to sleep (she also has a rattly cough).
She woke a couple of hours later and is still not herself but did eat four rice cakes and a fruit pot plus had a feed from me.
She then cried until we put her down to sleep and she was out for the count immediately.
I know children can seesaw with symptoms and I'm guessing this is just a cough/cold which is causing a bit of a tummy bug. But am I doing the right thing with just feeding her my milk and rice cakes?
When do I start to worry?
First time mum and don't know what to do

aah poor you

has she still got a temperature?

I have had that barking cough and rattly chest and I still haven't got rid of it a week later so I imagine it must be hitting little ones quite hard.

She might have swallowed a lot of mucus if she's been snotty and that always makes their tummies a bit icky. If she's hungry and asking for food, then I'd give her some and plain food (like you are doing) is best. Make sure she keeps having drinks (breast feeding, water etc.).

If you are worried, take her to the doc on Monday so he can listen to her chest just in case she's developed something following the cold. If she gets listless at all, I'd take her to out of hours before Monday.

ps her symtpoms sit perfectly with swine flu so if you are worried, I would call NHS direct, esp as she's still little.

I hope she's on the mend soon

Thanks. She's just got up and developed a temp of 101 .

Will give NHS direct a call. Our local surgery is referring any child with a temp to the Swine Flu hotline regardless of symptoms but I thought the cough had to be bad - it's been so intermittent with her?

I guess not everyone will get the symptoms in the same way. But the cough + temp + dodgy tummy would probably tick their boxes.

think it's definitely worth calling as she's only 12 months and has been poorly on and off for a while now

(and I'm not one to rush off to doctors etc.!)

hope all is ok

Thanks for your replies. Gave NHS a call and they were quite helpful.
Her temp is down and she managed two fruit pots and a few more rice cakes so fingers crossed
