calpol and childrens nurofen

Can someone remind me of the rules for giving calpol and nurofen.

Me too please!! I gave DD (3.9) calpol and 2.5ml nurofen in the middle of the night, calpol first and the temp didn't come down after an hour so gave nurofen as temp was 40! Is that right? [panicked emoticon..]

Double check this, but if i remember right you can give a dose of calpol and then nurofen two hours after that ect....

12pm calpol
2pm nurofen
4pm calpol
6pm nurofen

They contain different ingredients so do not affect each other. You need to respect the rules of each medicine, so calpol only every 4hrs and at the dosage for your child and ibuprofen at 6 (I think?) hourly intervals, no longer than 3 (I think?) days use.

Basically, you space it so that you're giving them alternately, so they're feeling less pain than having to wait for the next dose of only one medicine. Ibuprofen is MUCH better at lowering a temp, calpol keeps it down once it's lowered.

Did that make any sense?

you can give them both together if you want but remember it is no more than 3 times a day and at least 6hr apart for nurofen and 4 hr and no more than 4 times a day for calpol.

One every 3 hours, then the dosage for 24 works out ok.

Perfect, thanks. Its L snot everywhere hacking cough totally miserable we are on about 2 hours sleep in the last 24.

Oh Jammy. We've had a nasty virus here. I sympathise with the lack of sleep. I have a child who Will Not take medicine. She can regurgitate it quite spectacularly. Makes for a miserable few days. See you on the other side my love!

Also I always write it all down, as when you are sleep deprived you cant remeber what med you gave last! xx

I had a med list for 4 of us going the other day, no way I would remember everyones!

I do that too! I always write down what i gave DD and at what time, and im always checking it after every new dose and trying to work out if i have done it right! Nightmare!
