Would you consider my dd overweight?

DD is 9. She is a summer baby, so not 9 going on 10 for example.

To me she looks solid but in proportion and healthy.
She has a belly but so did I at that age. When I say belly, I mean that when she sits on the edge of the pool for example in a bikini she gets a couple of rolls.

She is starting to develop breasts and has to wear a bra top now.

I have just bought her school trousers from Next, I got her age 11 as I bought her some skinny jeans from there recently and had to get the 11 as the legs were a little short on the age 10 and she couldn't even get the age 9 pulled up.
The trousers are too tight around the tummy and make her look like a teletubby.
But if I buy her things in new look or primark she is in an age 10......

She does dance and hour a week, swimming twice a week for about an hour to 45 mins each time and orienteering once a week for an hour.
We also try to go cycling most weekends weather permitting.

I give her a good diet, so packed lunch yesterday was a small pitta bread with a little grated cheese, some carrot sticks, a banana and a low fat mousse.
I only give her no sugar squashes or water, sweets are a treat once a week on average and I cook all meals from scratch with as little fat as possible.

One of her friends parents has commented that "dd is getting quite overweight isn't she?"
Her dd is the whippet thin type as is she.

I am a size 10-12 dependent on where I shop and have lost about 1/2 a stone in the last 6 weeks ish by cutting down on bread and moving about more.

I was always solid bordering on chubby when growing up but then slimmed right down at the end of my teens as a lot of people do I think. I am really worried after that comment though that dd is overweight rather than just carrying the same sort of child type weight that I did if you see what I mean.
What do you think? As long as she is eating right and doing regular exercise is this ok or am i not doing enough and storing up trouble for her?

She will be absolutely fine, it will all drop to her hips about aged 11.

When we got foster dd 20 months ago she had a belly, fat around her breast area. This summer to start secondary school I bought her size 28 trousers which went round her little barrel like belly, tightly.

In last 10 weeks it has all dropped, she now has little boobs, a tiny waist, and little hips (and now wears a belt round her trousers) - she has not lost weight according to the wii fit but has grown another inch.

All now in proportion

Do nothing, say nothing, continue what you're doing - you're doing a great job, her food is absolutely fine. Most importantly don't let your issues (if you have any) with weight cloud it.

How much does she weigh? She sounds very similar to my niece who I think is overweight (as am I may I add, so no judging here!) I do worry about her as she weighs 6 stone at age 8 and looks very 'chunky'. Having struggled with my weight all my life I am acutely aware of tackling the problem whilst they are children. Having said that, she sounds as if she has a lovely healthy diet and plenty of exercise, perhaps her portions are too big if anything? You are best placed to know if she is overweight in comparison to her peers though.

Thank you so much for replying.

I haven't weighed her, I don't want to as she is really moving into the whole puberty hormonal stage and she would probably get quite upset if i put her on the scales.

I don't have any issues with weight normally, it was just this comment from her frinds mum that really threw me.
I was kind of thinking oh well, she will grow up rather than out soon, but then again there is so much press about children being overweight that I got a little worried about it.

I think it's worse because she is a summer baby, all her friends are sept/oct/nov babies so all nearly a year older than her. She seems kind of out of proportion with them all if you see what I mean. They all seem to be getting lean where she is still chubby.

Thankyou once again, I will relax.

Sorry, cross post.

Her portions are ok I think, I'm aware of what is about right for a child portion.
It's really just her belly that is like a barrel to quote laurie.
The rest of her is shapely and lovely. Not that her belly isn't, I just wasn't sure if she was carrying too much weight rather than justdoing the normal child thing of going out then up if you see what I mean.....

I think if anyone has a problem it's her friends parent, what a nasty thing to say.

She hardly sounds "quite overweight" to me

Great to hear.

I actually know what dd weighed - aged (9yrs 10months)she weighed 7stone and was 4 foot 11", 18 months later she weighs 7 stone and is five foot 2 inches. And wears size 6-8 adult clothes and is a size 6 feet.

So we're talking Kylie sized (actually 3 inches taller than Kylie).

If you did want to weigh her, have you got any pets or pumpkins that need weighing? its a very subtle of finding out their weight. I do think that a lot of girls to look 'tummyish' just as they enter puberty and then shoot up and look all in proportion.

Thank you ladies, I think i am going to steer away from weighing her and go with my instinct. Which tells me that she is pretty normal.
She does enough exercise and eats well so I'm as confident as I can be after this thread that it's not a problem.

The mum who made the comment isn't a friend of mine, she is the mum of one of dd's friends. I don't really know her well at all so I don't know if she was being insensitive or was being intentionally horrid.

Her dd is a little obesessed with weight and clothes etc but dd doesn't have too much contact with her outside of school so I think I'll just try to saty away if possible.

Many thanks once again ladies.
