hello chaps, tell me about impetigo as i think there's a chance that dd has it and i've googled and i am SQUICKED

of course i'm trying not to throw up, lol, but those farking photos! anyhoo, she had a wee spot up near her eye, scratched that, and today was itching at something on her face (i thought she had some paint on it or something but on closer inspection she's got a few teeny blisters near her mouth).
what is it? some ghastly disease of poverty no doubt. it wouldn't happen if i shopped at waitrose.

Both mine have had it. It was no problem but schools do not want your child to go in with it as it is highly contagious

Dd needed oral abs because her patch was at the edge of her mouth and she would have licked any cream off.

Ds caught it from dd but his was on his cheek and was able to have fucidin cream which cleared it up in a couple of days - in fact, more quickly than the oral meds.

I have heard horrible stories of some children having it really badly so it does need to be treated.

Don't share towels, regular hand washing and don't let her scratch.

does it have a yellowish crust?, although if she's only just got it, it might not be at the crusty stage quite yet! go to the gp, they'll give you some cream, it starts working straight away and reduces it by day 2. if it is impetigo, without the cream it will spread.

it doesn't have a crust, no, it's just five or so wee blisters but she's obviously finding them very itchy. i gave her some piriton and that seemed to help.

does it sound like the beginnign of impetigo to you? it doesn't really look like the pics but then they're bound to be the more revolting cases.

she's only at nursery, tmmj, if i think she's got something i wouldn't send her to nursery until a gp has okayed it.

Deffo see GP - DD's friend had it about nine months ago and was hospitalised for three weeks and lost all her hair (still hasn't grown back). It was

i had to keep dd off for 48hrs after starting the cream, that is when it is officially no longer contagious according to the leaflet that came with it.

The blisters will go yellowish if it is impetigo.

It does sound like dd's. Ds only had one blister, I caught it so soon as I was visiting the GP with something else for him. Killed 2 birds with one stone!

aitch - i'd say yes, it can start with blisters. it is horribly itchy, cream is like magic though.

I couldn't discuss the whole thing with her mum because my brain caught fire in shock and I basically dragged my children away from her in horror every time we met

Yes, we had to keep dd off nursery with it, just for 48 hours after starting the cream. Cleared up straight away once we started treating it. Take her to the doctors as soon as you can.

Just a random thought; could it be hand foot and mouth disease? And the thing near the eye was something else?

Or are all blisters the same? Can you take a pic?

and you know why she's got it, don't you? because once again i called down the gods of laundry. last time i defeated the basket of doom i gloated to dh and both dc promptly pissed their beds and then ours.

today, it's impetigo. separate towels ffs.

ds aged just one had it on the back of his hand

fantastic mum of 6 leaves it a week -kept putting fucidin on it and bandaged it at night because i thought he was nibbling it..

a friend suggested impetigo and i said 'nooooo '( all ill educated knowledgable) you only get that on faces

took two weeks too heal over with anti biotics which he loathed and three since then he still has a purple scar looking patch

Blisters can be something else which needs alot more urgent attention...please reply as i dont want to alarm you
