Do you think this is the right thing to do?

I am a usually calm, laid back mum of 4 (with another on the way).

The one thing I struggle with is when one of my kids get ill, even when its minor and I know it is.

My DD died from cancer 3 years ago and I know this is why I (quietly) panic about stuff now.

Anyhoo. My yummy little boy (22mths) seemed a bit off colour this afternoon. He wanted to stay in his buggy but wouldnt go off to sleep. I assumed he was coming down with something.

When I got him out for nappy change I realised he couldnt walk . I checked his legs and he giggled so I knew they were fine. Eventually worked out it was his foot. It seems to be his big toe.

His nail looks a teeny bit bruised but I cant tell if his toe is swollen because he has great big chubby feet. His foot felt a bit warm and he was very upset if I tried to touch it.

I was all set to rush him up to A&E (on a friday night!) but I calmed myself down a bit. So do you think this is ok?

I gave him nuerofen. I reasoned this is an anti iflam so would calm down the swelling and help with the pain. He did seem much happier and has now gone to bed. Do you think its ok to leave him overnight and see how his foot is in the morning?

I really cannot think how he did it. He didnt drop anything on it and I didnt hear him scream at anypoint but he couldve stubbed his toe?

I know this sounds like a nutty rant but try and be kind. I know I panic and I am trying not to because I know its not good for the kids. I am not naturally like this - honest.

Please reassure me before I drag the poor little bugger out of bed and up the hospital [

could it be an ingrowing toe nail - they really hurt!

I am sure it is nothing. He may have stubbed his toe but been too interested in where he was heading to bother to get upset (DD does this sort of thing).

I do understand your concerns though and following your daughter's death you have every right to have them. Personally, I would let him sleep tonight and then take him to the GP or a drop in clinic in the morning if her is no better.

Don't beat yourself up for worrying - it's what us Mums do. Take care.

I would say this is perfectly reasonable to leave until the morning.
Has he had any shoes or boots on? Could it be an Ingrowing Toenail,or could he have bashed it?

Maybe he has been sitting on it?

maybe its an "old" injury? Something he's done a day or so ago,and the bruising or pain is just coming out.

I'm a Nurse, and usually clear-headed except when it comes to my own DC's.So I think your "panic" is perfectly normal.

He's more than likely done something Minor like you said "Stubbing his toe",and he's only just started to feel it.

I'd try not to worry, and reassess in the morning.

car no it doesnt look like it. Although I did notice his nails could do with a trim

Thanks 'Lil'. He is a very placid chap usually. He is sleeping now so he must be ok. I hope he doesnt wake up screaming when the painkillers wear off!

I feel such a tit. I dont run about screaming. on the surface I am v.calm and collected. Inside I am a neurotic mess.

Hopefully the kids dont pick up on it. They are more likely to think I am a hardfaced mare!

If he wakes up in pain and he is due another dose, then give him another dose. In the morning, get him checked.

If the others are all in bed now, have a soak in the bath and try and relax.

How is his toe this morning?

Sorry I was so rude as not to come back. Bad me .

Of course DS3's toe is absolutly fine and nothing dropped off this week. It was tender for a few days and the corner of his nail has gone a black but is intact.

I am officially a silly mare.

Thanks for asking
