Mittelschmertz.

Some people get pain (generally quite brief) in the ovary/lower abdominal area in the middle of the month, around ovulation time.

Sorry, the correct spelling is mittelschmerz.

mittelsmerz is the correct spelling I think - I haven't looked it up. It is pain associated with ovulation, so is, I suppose, a possibility in an 11 year old.

If it is mittelsmerz, it would occur monthly.

The diagnosis at this stage would depend very much on a diary of possible triggers in the days before the pain, and a very clear description of the episodes. The pain is quite different in both conditions, so I am a bit surprised, TBH, but the GP can only suggest based on what you have told him/her.

I have experienced both, so maybe if you describe the symptoms??

Mittelschmerz is German and directly translated means middlepain. I thought it was only present at ovulation. That would only be possible if your DD has already started her periods.

She gets a pain underneath her belly-button...into her lower abdomen really.sometimes she doubles over;sometimes she says she feels the pain move upwards quite fast which makes her feel like she's gonna be sick...then she generally needs to have a no.2!
the doc has asked her to keep a diary aswell.i wasn't sure if it was due to stress she's been having in her new secondary school due to bullying/bitching etc.

I think the diary is really important. Sorry to hear she is being bullied. That could well be the cause, if it is stress related. What is being done about the bullying?

SOunds like a grumbling appendix to me. It can grumble for months before suddenly going critical.

Agree - appendix is also a possibility.

Period pains/ovulation pains/appendix/IBS

Do the pains happen at a certain time.

I get terrible ovulation pain. Feels like somebody's sticking hot pokers up my bottom and makes me need to poo too. I think that's a common side effect of ovulation pain so might be why it was suggested.

You have put it very eloquently. Ovulation pain is exactly like hot poker up the bottom, now that you mention it!
