My DD use to be such a happy, easy going contented little baby but that has changed since she had her 2nd lot of injections 2 weeks ago.

She has always fed (breast) really well & always settled back down after a feed at night without any bother. From approx. 6 weeks old she was going from 10pm until 7am with only one night feed & then at 12 weeks she satrted going through the night (a good 10-11 hours). She was what some might call a text book baby!

That all changed the 3rd night after her injections (at 13 weeks). She's really unsettled from about 8pm until she eventually falls asleep anytime between 10 & 11 (off & on the breast throughout) and is then waking every 2-3 hours. Once she's fed & fallen asleep i try to lay her back down in her cot but she becomes hysterical & will only fall asleep & stay asleep laying on our chest.

I've tried swaddling her again (which she use to love until she stated sucking her fingers & wanted her hands free) but to no avail. The only way we can get her to settle back down is to lay her on her front but it's really worring me. Plus she is still waking every 2-3 hours!

Nightimes are worse now than when she was first born & it's really taking it's toll on me. I figured i'd give it some time to see if things improved (thinking it was just the side effects of the injections etc), but it's been 2 weeks now & there's no sign of improvement.

It seems odd that she was doing so well before hand - why would she change so dramatically at nighttime? Her daytime routine hasn't changed at all & she is still the happy contented little baby during the day that she always has been.

Please help - any advice would be very much appreciated!! Thanks

Could she have some teething pain? I know it's early for teeth to appear but I'd swear that they move mysteriously for months before hand causing pain and disrupted sleep.

Does a dose of calpol or some bonjela help her to settle (i.e. imply that there's some pain that needs treating)?

Hi Hindsight, that sounds really rough, I'm so sorry. I wonder if it might be worth trying an earlier bedtime in case she is overtired. It was at about that age that my DD started needing to go to sleep at night from 7pm and went through to 7am, usually with one night waking, sometimes with none. Prior to this she never dropped off until at least 9pm. Her daytime naps also regularised about the same time - she had three - and I tried to put her down about 2 hours after the third one. Also introduced a proper bedtime routine. Apologies if none of this is helpful but might be worth a try.
