What to feed a vomiting one year old?

My dd is recovering from a nasty 24-hour sickness bug (which she also passed to her parents- thanks!). But she got it four days ago and still isn't eating much at all. Today I tried to tempt her with some scrambled egg and pasta and pesto for supper but she didn't eat anything apart from half a banana. She's drinking quite a bit of water and milk, so I'm not too worried about that side of things, but what plain foods could I try her on? She hasn't properly vomited since Wednesday but when I gave her some yoghurt today, she threw that up. Seems weird putting her to bed at night on such an empty stomach (she only took about 50ml of milk at her bedtime feed). Is this normal? She's my first so I'm not used to sickie bugs in babies

hope she feels better soon

I normally just go with what dd wants, I think when they are little they can judge it quite well. I find if I encourage her to eat and she's not keen, I usually see it again later iykwim. So safest bet is a little platter of finger foods - bits of fruit and veg, toast, biscuits/crackers, plain cooked rice/pasta etc and just let her graze if she wants to. I wouldn't bother with dairy too much and just give water until she's definitely stopped throwing up, but try and make sure she's getting plenty to drink at least.

As long as she's drinking enough its ok if she doesn't eat for a few days. I usually find my dd eats like a horse once she's recovered, and makes up for it!

Hi Jane

Dairy or fatty foods are the worst things to give someone getting over a vomiting bug. Try her with toast with a scraping of butter and jam, apples or bananas.

If she is drinking plenty of water she will be fine and will regain her appetite as and when she is ready.

Sorry you've all been poorly .

My 18 mth old recently had d&v whilst we were on holiday in spain. After 5 days we had to take him to the hospital as the chemist wouldn't sell us dioralyte rehydration sachets without us seeing a doc.

At the hospital we were given a list of things to eat which were:
water
white foods such as potatoes. rice, chicken, veal (!), pasta and fish.
no veg except carrots (for some reason)
no fruit (tho bananas are considered ok in uk)
no fruit juice.

I do agree with scoob tho that she will kind of 'know' what her body wants and needs.

hope you're all feeling better soon.
