House of mild ailments post no. 1: Very sore red bottom

DD2 (15 months)has developed a very very sore looking ring around her anus. It doesn't look like nappy rash (usually if they have it there are satelite spots around a larger area)and the colour is vivid. She haws been saying "poo" a lot but isn't doing a poo, so we think its bothering her and she is hating being cleaned. I have checked for worms - no sign and she isn't scratching (she is still in nappies). Has anyone come across this, is it just a type of nappy rash? She currently won't sit in the bath so the area isn't getting a good soak, but we are putting bepanthen on religiously. It looks bad enough that I might take her to Drs. Oh and tonight she has a temperature, prob not related as I have had throat infection all weekend.
Thanks, all sore bum related help welcome!

Get an egg white, and using a pastry brush, paint it on the sore area and leave it to dry (with no nappy on). Leave it on overnight, then wash with water the next day and it will go. Yes I know it sounds barking but it really works!
