3yr old ds has swine flu and ds2whos 8 months started getting poorley and yesterday had gp out and ds2 isl loud breathing and a cough.Chest is clear. Today he is very hoarse, awful cough and when he breathes in deeply he makes a real strain noise in his throat which obviously hurts him. He was put on the baby tamiflu yesterday more of a precaution i think (he has other health probs) i dont want to call doctor out necessarily but wondering if tonnsilitus could be possible? How would you know or ami clutching at straws?

Doesn't sound like tonsillitus. Croup? I'm sure someone will know more thna me, but tonsillitus won't give you a cough, or noisy breathing. Feel either side of his neck- if it's tonsillitus you wil be able to feel two big lumps

idont think croup....doctor yesterday wasnt very helpful tbh...bit like heres tamiflu get on with it. Its the pain that worries me as it sounds very raw and he wakes up every half hour depsite being dosed up to eyeballs with medss

I came to recognise a smell when my dd had tonsilitis. She had it an awful lot and it smelt like boiled cabbage if I smelt her breath

hmm cant really smell anything but then get close for a sniff and he is trying topull my nose. The roof of his mouth is sort of white and red?

poor little thing, 8 months is still so small. I think in your shoes I might call the doctor again. Sorry he wasn't very helpful last time. It's so worrying when babies are ill

very hard as they have only just got over awful bout of chicken pox aswell. Its strange as when he is distracted (normally by ds1) he is okish.... so he cant be THAT bad? That is what is stopping me ringing doc again

mad4myboys Sun 26-Jul-09 16:01:59

ok rang the doc.he seems to bemaking a bigeffort to breath in? But okish in himself until he tries to go to sleep and his chest goesin when hecries....

ZZZenAgain Sun 26-Jul-09 16:03:12

what did the doctor say then? Sounds horrible.

mad4myboys Sun 26-Jul-09 16:05:07

waiting for call back. Dreading them saying its just viral or something. Onmy own with both ds's as dh working away and have no one to help

It could be croup if his chest goes in when he cries.

This is actually lartyngitis and usually is worst at night, when the swelling narrows the airways.

Tell the doc about the chest thing.

any news?

Chicken pox can often be followed by a chest infection as well. Glad you're getting it checked out.

ok,so this doc alot better than the one on sat. He said probable ear infection and probable tonnsilitus!Only 'probablle' because ds2 thrashing around so much in pain for him to get thorough look so he is on anti biotics.Im so glad i went, thanka for all your support
