Nephew may have Giant Cell Tumor in his leg, does anyone have any experience with this?

DN (11yo) has to go back for tests, the docs suspect Giant cell tumor and SIL has been googling and has scared herself silly.

I have not spoken to her myself yet, she talked to DH for ages this evening. She has herself convinced that it is hereditary and that her DD has it too. And that he will have to have his leg amputated.

Everything that I have read points to this being highly highly unlikely.

I will phone her tomorrow and try to talk her down, does anyone have any good advice?

He had been complaining of pain in his leg and was referred to the hospital for an Xray. They discovered he had a tumour in his leg and took him in to do remove it and did some tests. Now they are talking about more ops and possibity of lung damage.

From what I have read, it is not a cancer that he could die of, but may mean several operations over a long period of time and regular check ups.

SIL is just terrified that both DC have it and they are going to have limbs amputated. Not sure where she has that idea from.
