Bedwetting.....

Hi, not sure if i've posted in the right part, not been on here for a while...
My 7y.o has been wetting the bed for nearly a year now, he is a secondary bedwetter (i.e been dry for at least 6months prior) we had a very bad year last year which is when he started, everything is ok now but he can't seem to stop! He fell asleep earlier, was moaning and twitching in his sleep, was saying something was after him, when we moved him he was wet. I'm guessing he is having nightmares but i'm at a loss as to what to do!!!! He doesn't drink after 5pm, goes for a wee at 7pm, bed by half past....we've tried to wake him for a wee before we go to bed but he just gets hysterical. The HV has already said she can't really help, doesn't know what to advice.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

And thanks for reading

It sounds like he may be having problems at school?

I'd go to the school nurse rather then the HV, school nurses are really good at helping with bed wetting. They can help you do charts and refer him if needed. You can get in touch via the school, just tell them you want to speak to the school nurse and they will get her to contact you, they don't need to know what for so it's completely confidential. They know alot more about this then the HV. Honest. Fantastic ladies.

Really? I'd never think of the school nurse! I'll give it a shot, see if we can speak to her before end of term....
He was being picked on but we have only found out recently, that hasn't helped matters i guess.
Thankyou very much, fingers crossed she can give me some good advice!
(and are you a school nurse by chance?

Poor thing.

I trained as a paeds nurse for a couple of years so have spent time with the school nursing team. They were all brilliant, so helpful and supportive. They do alot more then talk about puberty and do weight checks, they are really fab!

They can help him with the bullying.

Ok, thanks, nice to get some proper helpful advice, unlike what we've had so far.
Thankyou very much, appreciate it!

Another vote for school nurse

In the meantime have a good look at this website eric

It has loads of great advice

Also whilst you are waiting:

Don't restrict drinks but stick to milk or water

Don't lift the child before you go to bed - they will not wake up properly and in effect you will be encouraging weeing in their sleep

Double or triple dress the bed for easy bedmaking in the dead of night - sheet/waterproof, sheet/waterproof, sheet/waterproof

Shower your child in the morning for social reasons

HTH and good luck

I hope it goes better for him. He must be so miserable at the moment. Bullying and bed wetting can be so hard for a child.
