DD(8) fractured her elbow on wednesday night she now has it in a splint and we are due at the fracture clinic monday.

Just been warned by someone about growth plates, having googled them after the dr mentioned them when looking at dd X-ray,I now know what they are. Just wanting to be arm with a little more so it seems I have some idea of what I'm talking about in fracture clinic plus it might stop me worrying all weekend.

My only experience is of lower limb growth plates. If a growth plate is damaged it can cause the bone to grow unevenly or stop it growing prematurely. This is why they are careful to check that the plate isn't damaged. My dd had surgery on her leg to electively damage the plates and halt the growth.

Hope you get some more info on Monday and dd's arm heals well.

Thanks how do they check the growth plate as this is what I've been told to be pushy about They won't going check to with her ds but her dh been a dr pushed.

Don't really know the lady that well but she did make a point to me to make sure they were checked. It was a very brief conversation and now I'm just left hanging.

They can be seen quite clearly on the x-ray (well leg ones can) So I would assume that it's the same for the arm. I would ask if the plates are clearly visible on the x-ray they took and if not should she have another one done?

From what I've read they don't always show up on x-rays.
