Bad cold in DD2 - 15 weeks. What can I do?

My poor DD2 has a terrible cold caught from DD1. She is very snotty and finding it difficult to breathe, esp when feeding (she is FF). She has a slight temperature but my temperature thing is crap so not sure how bad, but definitely higher than normal.

I tried to give her some calpol but I'm pretty sure she spat it all out.

Anything else I can do? I feel awful as I stopped BF and now she's poorly

Ah poor little thing.
You can raise the the head end of the cot (a few books is usually enough), you can use snuffle rub (baby strength vicks) on her chest and use a nasal aspirator to suck the snot out (may need to use saline drops first).HTH.

All noted thanks NF.

Can you also make me feel better re: breastfeeding?

Seriously though - I seem to remember DD1 bouncing back fairly quickly when she was little - any idea how long the cold will last?

Also any tips for getting her to swallow the calpol?

Auntyspan - sorry to hear dd is ill. What the others say re remedies.

On the breastfeeding front - dd1 was 100% ff from 7 weeks and mixed before that - didn't get her first cold until 10 months. DD2 99% breastfed had nasty nasty cough virus at 10 weeks. Do NOT blame yoursef.

My DS has a terrible cold at the moment - he's only eight weeks and is breastfed except one bottle of formula at 11pm every night.

It seems to me that they get poorly whatever we do!

Thanks ladies.... that mothercare thing looks AMAZING. Have ordered one so finger's crossed it works.

She's getting better I think, she refused her 11.30am bottle though and has been asleep in the swing chair ever since.

On a positive note, as DD1 has been taken out for lunch by DH, I'm getting loads of chores done!

DD had a cold at 2 days old and was bf at the time, it doesn't prevent dcs from getting ill.
Get some saline drops from chesmist to clear her nose and a fast teat for the bottle.

Hi aunty!

Dd2 got 1st cold when she was still exclusively bf - no blame on you whatsoever.

I blame toddler siblings who bring horrid virulent bugs home with them. Your Dd1 didn't have that to contend with.

We used the dummy medicine thingie - it was great - but dd1 did get wisw to it !
