sticky eye in 3 month old

My dd has had a sticky eye since birth. (I thought at first it might have something to do with her being roughly ventoused out of there...)

She's had antibiotic eye drops, but it came back. HV said not to bother trying that again.

I've wiped breast milk on it, but that didn't work.

Someone told me you had to put the milk in the eye, like drops. Anyone know if that's true? Or anything else I could try?

It doesn't bother her, but I worry about it. Thanks!

ds2 had blocked ducts until about 8/9months and I was starting to worry about the amount of drops we were putting into his eyes. What finally worked was massaging the tear ducts - applying gentle pressure and pushing underneath the eye on the outer corner to the inner corner....

good luck

My dd had recurring sticky eye for months. Breastmilk never seemed to work until I accidentally dropped quite a bit directly into her eye. Did seem to work!

see gp for drops - DS had it, spread into both eyes bit red and sore on occasion - esp after sleep, warm previously water with a tiny bit of salt too was good for bathing

my 12 wo dd2 still has her sticky eye. Was told not to bother with anti-biotics unless her eye got red and sore. Her eye is mostly gunky - possibly a blocked tear duct.

I was recommended using chamomile tea to bathe the eye as it is soothing.

Bubblagirl - glad you said 8 months - I will stop worrying (and pestering my HV) now

Vizzle, if you find a magic cure let me know!

Drop breast milk DIRECTLY in the eye 3 times a day. Don't just wipe it over. It will clear the sticky eye up in no time.
So much better than anti- drops.
