11 week dd haivng trouble breathing with blocked nose

my 11 week old d has had a cold for about 2 weeks now and it doesnt seem to be clearing up...

Iv been giving her saline drops to try and clear the mucous but it doesnt seem to be having any effect.

i was up all night last night because she was having trouble breathing and shes really uncomfrtable is there anyhtin i can do to hep her?

she hasnt got a temperature but looks abit spaced out and just doesnt seem herself atall x

Steam inhalation can help -- sit with her in the bathroom while the shower runs, or put a bowl of hot water by her cot at night.

She is old enough now for Baby Olbas or similar, you can get from Boots.

Raising the head of the cot slightly might help her breathe.

If her nose is blocked you can try a nasal aspirator, we got a good one from Mothercare -- it sucks the snot out (gross but can be effective).

Hope she feels better soon, it's horrid when young babies get colds.

Have you tried one of those nasal sucker things? You can get them in most pharmacies. I could never manage to get anything out but DH did and it seemed to help.

You can put a few drops of Baby Olbas in the hot water too. Again nasal sucker has helped us over the years with nighttime snuffles.
No harm in getting her checked by the GP though if you think it's gone on too long (but you've probably done that anyway).

I swear by nasal drops - just saline that waters everything down. Comes in a little drpper like optrex = she will resist at first but the sigh of contentment from being able to breathe makes it worth it

We've had 2 types - one that you suck one end and the snot collects in the other end when you put it at the baby's nose. That one worked well. The other one was like a bottle that you squeeze and when you release it the suction is supposed to draw out the snot - but that one seemed useless.

saline solution can work a treat. makes them sneeze - equivelent of blowing nose for an adult. completely safe and non medicinal! not nice to have small baby in discomfit good luck

Im also worried about the fact she hasnt loked rght for a few days really spacd out and wide eyed.. would you worry or is it just he cold?

We have a squeeze and release one and it's been fine - sometimes takes a few goes to get it right. It's by Nuk who make bottles and stuff (I think).

poor love, it sounds as if he is miserable.
IF you don't think he is right then take her to a doctor. are you sure he doesn't ahve even a slight temprature?

chop an onion wrap it in a cloth and hang it over his bed.

You can put quite a big squirt of the saline solution up the nose, I remember being shocked watching a doctor do i to ds1 when he was tiny. we had been cautiously putting drops in and she squirted half the bottle up each nostril. You can use saline drops as often as you need to get teh nose clear. try ever half hour.

If you're worried, (and you sound worreid) make an appt at the GP
BUt saline drops can be used fairly often IIRC - check the label for instructions.
