Flouride or not

Do you use flouride toothpaste or flouride free one for your chidlren? I have been using organic one without flouride for my DS (18 montsh old) but recently we have been advised by a dentist to use floride ones. She also said we should chose one containing maximum 500 ppm flouride.
I am quite confused here, as I haven't been able to find a toothpaste with 500 ppm floride except from the colgate ones which also contain SLS (sodium laureth sulphate) and as you know it is not very good thing to give SLS to your baby. We have been trying to avoid SLS even in shampoos and soaps now we may have to use it orally in toothpaste. This is very annoyying for me really.
Does anybody know a more natural toothpaste with floride? At least an SLS and paraben free one?

All toothpaste is free of flouride and floride.

As to ones containing fluoride (sorry, pedantic chemist, its a bugbear of mine) all I know of is Colgate or Oral-B stages. Which both contain SLS; they are probably what most of us have used on our kids without adverse effects. Scare stories about SLS may well just be urban myths. Dental caries aren't.

Hope you can find something you're happy with.

My Mum used to make me chew on a fluoride tablet after brushing, my teeth are 'like wings of steel!' I've heard London water doesn't have fluoride in so I try to give DS toothpaste with it in

We use a high fluoride toothpaste but then we live in Scotland where the water isn't fluoridated. Sainsbury's do an own brand one.

no idea about SLS though - I've never heard of it

Our water isn't fluorinated in this part of Lancs either - when DD was about 3 the HV said we should start on the 1000ppm paste (ie the kids 6+ paste).

We were told to use an adult strength one, just a very tiny amount (no fluoride in our water). Waitrose do an own brand one that is SLS and triclosan free

The HV told us we could use adult ones too - trouble is, DD doesn't like mint (even the Colgate Stages paste was too minty - luckily OralB isnt)
