cat poo - would you be worried?

Have just got home to discover cats have messed upstairs, and while I was hunting for the source of the smell, DS(21mn) unbeknown to me had followed me up and found it in his room.

He came running to me to show me he had the tineiest of smudges of poo on his finger - I knew straight way what had happened. He had a biscuit in the other hand which was clean and still had biscuit (I checked) in his mouth.

I chucked the rest of the biscuit and cleaned his hands. I also cleaned his hands as I found a few tiny smudges on his dungarees and top - whenre he must of wiped his hands,

I know children can get toxoplasmosis (sp) from cat mess. I am quite sure he did'nt put it in his mouth - thanks to the biscuit, and I cleaned his with anti-bac and changed his clothes.

Do you think I need to do anything else??

It sounds like you have it covered. I've just googled toxoplasmosis and it seems that it is not really a risk unless you have a compromised immune system - ie pregnant or suffering from a serious illness. I am sure that lots of kids digging in the garden come into regular accidental contact with cat poo.

Well I think he has doubly made sure as he has just bought me the empty anti-bac tube (which I had replaced in my bag) and pointed to a trail all over the floor and his second pair of dungarees .

And in his own helpful way he has run to get the dustpan and brush

I was also under the impression that kids who live with cats do get exposed to toximoplasmosis quite early on and that their immune systems deal with it fine. And once you've had it, you won't get it again. When I was little I remember finding cat poo in various sandpits! Our cat is ill and sick quite a lot and I've always been a bit worried about it but the GP said I shouldn't be. I mean, think about all the things they get exposed to in the big wide world and think how much of the time kids spend with their hands in their mouths! All good for the immune system.
