In Specsavers this PM choosing some new glasses for my DTS (3rd pair broken in 4 months), when my other DTS let off a stinker (believe me, he may be only 6 but he can clear a room) just as an assistant was coming over to speak to us. Got my DD (age 11) to take him and stand outside the door with him (pedestrianised street so no traffic!) while I frantically flapped my arms about like a madwoman. Unfortunately, not enough time and smell was still evident when she got over to us so had to mention that it was my son, not me!! She gave a polite laugh and all that but quite embarrassing. Thing is, he does this all time mostly when we are in queue of some sort (in Tescos, the library, GP's waiting area, cinema, torture taking him to any theme park) where we cannot escape and he's too young for me to tell him to go outside if he feels one coming on. Not that he would tell me anyway. He is a silent farter and tries to blame it on his siblings but my nose is accustomed to them now so I nose it's him. Also he says he does it at school a lot and am very worried that he will be known as farty pants and be taken the mickey out of. He has quite a good diet, lots of fruit and veg and also is an avid apple eater (perhaps 4 a day). I am sure this is contributing to his problem but I do not want to tell him not to eat them, have tried witholding them but he will take them anyway and sneakily crunch them behind the sofa where I find the stems (he eats the WHOLE apple) when I finally get round to cleaning behind there! He is certainly not constipated (as any one unfortunate enough to use my downstairs loo would testify). Any ideas? Don't want to bother my GP with this as it is pretty trivial.

You are probably right to look at his diet. My nephew had a similar problem (gas and lot of time sat on the toilet) until they found he had a soy intolerance. He was eating quite a lot of meat substitute as he doesn't like meat. As soon as they cut soy from his diet, it sorted itself out. Would talk to GP/nutritionist - they hear all sorts of embarrassing/ "trivial" stuff!
