11 month old has hurt her wrist, bit of home tlc or A&E

We noticed it yesterday.
She started crawling and with her right arm she used the flat of her arm to crawl along, the left she just used her hand as normal.

We manipulated it and it's obviously a little tender but can't be broken or anything as we'd really know about it. She hasn't cried or anything and is still doing everything else as per usual with no complaints. It's just the weight bearing when crawling she's opting out of.

So, have given her nerofen.

Question is do I just help her keep it rested, and give her nerofen now and then throughout next couple of days and see how it goes.

Or do I sit in A&E with her?

I basically hate having to go to a hospital or doctors surgery with my kids unless I really have to, and would rather just see how she goes but don't want to be a bad negletful mother either.

I would go to A&E.

Thomcat Tue 26-Aug-08 09:14:43

Oh really. Bugger.

Could be a dislocated elbow, as that tends to exhibit as a pain in the wrist. It's very common between 6 months and 6 years - dd did hers just by wriggling when dh was holding her. I'd prob go to A&E just to get it checked over, though it's positive that she's not crying about it - dd was hysterical.

Sorry I had a wriggly baby and was trying to eat [slob] .

I would just get it quicly checked it is likely to be quiet in A&E this time in the morning and you will probably get seen quickly .

I just think more than anything it will put your mind at rest .

I hate taking my dc to the gp and a&e too so sympathise .

Hope everything is ok

Oh bless her.

Well I've decided that yes you are of course all absolutely right and I'll be taking her.

Have childcover for the other 2 DD's this afternoon so will let her have her morning sleep, which she needs & is 2 hours long, then them all some lunch, drop off elder 2 and get up to A&E.

Sure it's nothing serious but I know it needs to be checked to be sure.

Thanks all, TC x

Oh bugger TC, poor DD. Am glad you don't have to take your other 2 with you. Oh poor DD3, I have visions of Niamh 'limping' around sad.

REALLY hope it isn't anything serious like you say. Big hugs for little Sadie x x

Please post when you get any news.

How are you?

My ds broke his arm last year when he was 2.5. He cried a bit when he did it but I really didn't think he'd done anything as he seemed fine. We actually took him to the walk-in centre about a bump oin his head he'd done at the same time. She said his head was fine but by the way he was holding his arm she thought it was broken! We felt terrible!
Also, earlier this year he dislocated his elbow during an over-zealous game with dh. This was a totally different ball game - hysterical screaming, couldn't move, wanted his arm held up all the time, felt sick etc. I very much doubt she's done that unless she's hardcore!!!

I hope she's ok. Poor little angel.

HeinzSight Tue 26-Aug-08 20:46:01

Any news TC?

Thomcat Tue 26-Aug-08 20:48:42

Am crap mum.
She however is brave angel child.
She's in a cast with a fractured arm.
How rubbish am I!!

HeinzSight Tue 26-Aug-08 20:50:39

Oh TC sad. Any idea how it may have happened? You poor things. Is is a greenstick fracture?

Thomcat Tue 26-Aug-08 20:54:03

Oh yes, heard the word greenstick at some point.

No idea at all how it happened.

Poor brave little mite.

HeinzSight Tue 26-Aug-08 20:58:02

Saw your other thread. Please don't beat yourself up, easier said than done, tis what us Mummys do best! Like others have said, even the experts didn't think it was a fracture initially, am SO glad they did an xray.

How's she coping with the cast. Must seem pretty strange to her. What a brave little girl.

Sending Sadie and TC uber massive hugs x x x
