Help! My daughters cast seems to be peeling off 🙄

Hi, my daughter broke a bone in her forearm on Tuesday, went to the fracture clinic on Wednesday this week. It seems to be falling apart, does this warrant calling the fracture clinic to have it replaced or is there anything we can do at home? I’ve tried cutting it but obviously it keeps Peeling off Shock.

Added a pic for reference!

Any advice greatly appreciated x

Fracture clinics often work at least some hours over the weekend - call them. In the meantime can’t you just wrap some Elastoplast or a bandage or something around it so the edges don’t snag on anything/ your daughter’s not tempted to pick at it?

Hi, our local Hospital is 15 miles away and the player room is closed over the weekend! I’ve tried Elastoplast and it keeps falling off, my see if I can get a bandage maybe to cover it, as you say to avoid picking or it getting any worse

We used a bit of old bandage soaked in the Paris laid over the bit that was peeling then added a smooth layer on top .

Just cut the dangly bit off. It's literally just a small bit of the bandage. If you cut it off and tape down the cut edge it'll stop any more of the bandage coming unstuck from the plaster

I’ve cut it several times now and it still keeps coming undone as the tapes etc we have tried keep coming loose x

Is it just the bandage that is coming off? Use some micropore (or even duct tape) to stick it on. The bandage is really just there as a cast cover.

That’s not true - the pink stuff that’s peeling up is the cast - there’s no plaster involved in this sort of cast.

Fracture clinic may be shut but your local a&e plaster room will fix it. It’s the outer layer so the plaster itself will be fine with some surgical tape I’ve never known micropore hold much down for long mind you.

Yes that’s right @Greybeardy. Our local plaster room is
Closed until tomorrow so I’ll give them a call as DD is now complaining that the whole thing feels lose and she could probably pull it off with ease if she tried Hmm x

Not familiar with that type of "cast", whenever ds has been in the colorful bandage was always only to provide a protective cover over the plaster cast or over the actual supportive white bandages underneath.

Last time ds broke something it was his elbow and they gave him a huge heavy backslab of plaster from upper arm down to his wrist with masses of messy bandages and a sling for 6 weeks, just to support the elbow while it healed. It was falling to pieces by the end of the first week.

They gave us some stocking bandages (a bit like tube bandages, but not tight) to try to keep it all together for as long as possible.
