Hi there. My DD who is 13 months old has been cranky all this week due to being ill. Her voice is hoarse when crying, and now she has some
Ulcers on her tongue. She is eating, has no other cold symptoms. Just want some advice really on how to make her feel better. I am giving Calpol but it doesn't seem to be helping. ☹️. Thanks

Take her to the doctors. She's been poorly for a week, she might need antibiotics or something else for the ulcers.

I deal with ulcers (on the mouth rather than the tongue as I don't get them on the tongue) by holding the tip of a match to it. There's sulphur there and if you hold it there for about (cold match is fine) minute or so you'll see the white painful bit kind of turn into mush, go grey, then black and it numbs up the area.
Not an NHS approved thing but just found it on the internet and works.

Sounds like HFM maybe

Thanks for your replies. Does HFM only appear at the tip of the tongue sometimes? The ulcers are only small if that makes a difference?

My 2.5 year old has been cranky & hoarse all week but weirdly just kept pointing at her tongue & getting quite upset. Doctor couldn’t see anything but said tonsils were very swollen & red. So assumed a viral tonsillitis. But today, out have popped 3 ulcers on her tongue (similarly, quite small but def ulcers) .. she’s not unwell anymore, bouncing off the walls in fact but is struggling to eat. I’m a bit baffled but assume a virus of some kind! Just sent my OH to the shops for bonjela as they are really irritating her!
