Advice about Omeprazole please

Hi all,
My 10 week old baby had been prescribed Omeprazole for his reflux. He’s only been on it for 4 days. I notice that constipation and extra gas are side effects, well all through the last night he’s been so unsettled - screaming as though he’s in pain and arching his back, kind of looking like he’s trying to pass something. Does anyone have any experience with this on Omeprazole, and does it settle down?
Also, any Omeprazole success stories to make me feel better about things?
Thank you!

Hi Pain,

Omeprazole was a life-saver for my child. He went on it at 6 months, and then the dose was upped massively when he was about 18 months when he had a gastrostomy and his reflux worsened (was warned this could happen). He's still on it today, back on the low dose (He's secondary age!) My son never had constipation. I hope things settle down for your baby.

My son has just been prescribed this following a trip to a&e, we were on lansoprazole but doctor thought might be worth changing? Not sure whether to change or stick to lansoprazole, sorry can’t be of much help yet!

I would give it time. He is still getting used to it
When do you give him the dose? I remember I ended up splitting the dose so gave it morning and night as he was still quite unsettled at night when given in morning(I would check with pharmacist before doing that though). We also had to double the dose that was prescribed initially.

For us it made a big difference. It didn't stop a lot of his reflux symptoms (he was really sicky) but it did help with a lot of his pain.

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I'm experiencing the same with my baby now who is 14 weeks old. I give him the medicine in the evening since he was 3 weeks old but now he's waking with pains, seems like he's finding it hard to poo.
I'm not sure if it's the medication causing it or not. What happened in your case?
