Hello everyone
Im new here!
I feel I’m at my tethers end. I have a one year old boy who gets poorly with an ear infection every 20 days or I’ve seen so many different drs including a private ENT specialist and also a paediatrician. They all say the same thing, that it’s normal at his age, some kids do have chronic ear infections and that he’ll eventually grow out of it.
I’ve tried everything, even homeopathy medicine. On the first day his fever gets really high (39,5 to 40 degrees Celsius) it always scares me and I often end up at the A&E only to be told His ears are red and that I shd give him paracetamol or antibiotics. He’s been on 2 different antibiotics. They work great but once he finishes his course give it a week or so and the infection is back.
I feel powerless and unsure of what to do as Im a ftm and have never seen any kids being as sick as him so often.
Anyone else going through the same?

I’m so sorry to hear you’re facing this! For 5 months at the start of this year my (then) 15 month had persistent ear infections. He had 5 rounds of oral antibiotics which would work for a few days and then the ear discharge would return. He was finally seen in ENT 5 months later and diagnosed with Chronic Suppurative Otitis media. He had ear swabs and was given two different ear drops (gentamicin and ciprofloxacin) and finally we got the infection under control.

Has your son been given topical antibiotics. Apparently oral ones just don’t work very well. It’s exhausting and distressing - I really feel for you both.

Hi ForeverBaffled and thank you for replying!
This is round 5 of ear infection for us too! He’s only 1 year old. I think the dr mentioned he has exterior otitis (which I believe it’s not as deep down in the ear) although it can be very distressing, as he gets really poorly. He’s on amoxicillin and we were also give some olive oil ear drops.
I think we really have to take him to a good ENT specialist. I feel like we need to get to the bottom of it. It does not feel normal or right to have a sick child every Fortnight. :(

I’m so sorry to hear this Dolly! Our DS had repeat ear infections all the way until he had grommets fitted age 2.5. Probably not the answer to your problems but if you’re in london, or can get to London, I can thoroughly recommend the consultant we were referred to - nhd at the Evelina Hospital but he does private. So kind and patient and understanding about how fed up we were and how reluctant I was just to keep feeding DS antibiotics. PM me if you’d like details.
