Boys puberty - Advice Please?

I have two sons 10 and 14 years old. I am slightly concerned because ds2(10), is far more into puberty than ds1(14). The only signs of puberty ds1 has, is a bit of BO and sudden mood changes, (I don’t want to look down there), whereas, Ds2 has a lot of hair and his voice is “breaking” every now and then. They have both read the “What happening to me” book by Usborne, which gave them an insight about the changes they are going to be seeing.

Could this be a sign of delayed puberty (ds1)/early puberty (ds2)? Would it be worth getting advice from his doctor? I don’t want them to have any problems in the future that could be sorted out now. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I think at 10 and 14 both of your boys are in the normal range for starting puberty so neither are early or late - everyone's different.
My 9 year old son has started getting a few spots on his face, but no other signs so far...

Thanks BlackInk, I’m just worried that ds1 might get picked on by others at school etc, as he is one of the shortest in his year group. I’ve just got to get your message across to ds2 about “everyone’s different” so that he won’t tease his brother.

Both in normal range. However siblings are often similar with age of puberty. My nephew has no sense of smell so he is under an endocrinologist with yearly appointments to make sure he goes through puberty properly. This has made me aware of certain conditions that can delay or mean puberty doesn't start or finish so I'd err on the side of caution. There is kallmanns and hypogonadism which can have the symptoms of no sense of smell or a micro penis as a child, but those symptoms aren't always present or noticed. Do you know of any relatives started puberty later? He should be similar to his father.

10 does sound early to me.
The earliest boys I've known whose voices broke were 12yo.

For what it's worth, I remember at school at the start of year 9 exactly 2 boys' voices had broken. At the end of year 9, no others had.

When we came back for year 10 after the summer holiday only one of the boys hadn't (and he should have been the year below and was very small for his age).

Thanks for the replies, DH started puberty around age 11 he has told me, which links in with ds2 but doesn’t make sense for ds1? He has a good sense of smell. His doctor did note down something about a retractile testis, when he was 8 or 9? But she said they will come down on its own when he hits puberty, so it is best to wait and see. Obviously he doesn’t want to talk about it now, but I’m worried whether this could be to do with it?
