Hi! My daughter has suffered with hearing loss, due to glue ear. She has only had one failed hearing test which was mild- moderate loss. She has an ENT appointment made by SALTS for large tonsils and poss large adenoids. I’m going hoping they can sort it all it’s its generally all connected ( large adenoids can cause glue ear) she suffered all last year, could barely hear a thing, and has only had 1 bad hearing test due to the ridiculous waiting times from referral in our region.
So my question is... did anybody have their child’s adenoids our and grommets inserted after just one failed test and mothers saying how awful it was last year. I’ve also had the teachers from last year and this year write a letter to say how badly it’s affecting her at school.

Thank you

It depends on your consultant. We were put on the waiting list for surgery after one failed hearing test - but the consultant already knew us from other things.
Ask if they’ll put you on list and arrange another hearing test whilst you are waiting.

Thanks for your reply, she has had 2 hearing tests, the first was in the summer so hearing wasn’t to bad, however did show that she had fluid in the ears, and the recent one was 5 months later and she still had fluid in her ears so I’m hoping that’s proof that it’s not draining by itself. It’s just been such a fight to this point I won’t be leaving the hospital until they agree to do something to help her! X

DS had one hearing test and was fitted with grommets as a result (done within a few weeks). He was two and had had numerous ear infections previously.

Ds has had 3 lots of grommets.
It hasn't always been connected to failing hearing tests. He got the first two sets due to the ear infections and burst eardrums (roughly every 2 weeks throughout the autumn/winter/spring).The third we asked for hearing aids, but was told that again his ear drum was bulging so badly he needed grommets.

In each case it's just been the infections and/or one hearing test-he was too small for a full test for the first one.

Have you tried olbas oil? Put in boiling water in her room overnight

Took 3 nights and DS woke up crying because of all the gunk coming out of his ears.

Made a huge difference

Thanks for your replies! We had appointment with ENT today and they have said grommets in both ears and adenoids to be removed. Hoping wait for surgery won’t be to long, can’t wait for my little one to be able to hear properly again!
