Evening all.

My 13 year old ds was prescribed Pizotifen a few days ago for migraines. He took his first pill on Saturday night and yesterday he said he had a small headache, but he went and played football and seemed ok, apart from being tired.
Today he went to school with a headache and then I had a call from the first aider saying that he had come to the medical room feeling sick and spaced out. I explained that he was on these new meds and suggested he stay at school and not do Rugby. I asked if he had been sick and she said no.
Later that day he was texting me to say he felt unwell, but I encouraged him to stay and go to the medical room again if he was sick or felt much worse.
I know the side effects of these pills can be nausea and fatigue, so just thought it was normal.
Anyway, he came back from school earlier and he still felt really ill and told me that he had been sick three times at school and not told anybody.
He is in bed now and feels really hot and still has a headache.
Is it likely that this is the meds causing this or could he just have a bug? He's only had two pills so far.
He is due his next pill soon and I am nervous about giving it to him.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

I took pizotifen for a while. I wasn't affected in the way you describe, but I stopped taking it because I was worried about weight gain which is the primary side effect iirc.

Feeling sick is a side effect, but I'm not sure being sick is? Also, it sounds like he has a fever, so maybe more likely a bug? I guess the only way you will know will be if he stops taking them and feels better.

Btw, they don't stop headaches once one has started, so don't expect that to happen. They are supposed to prevent headaches occurring, but again, I don't think that means they stop every headache, just lessen the frequency of headaches.

Thank you Dumbledoresgirl

I think you are right, it does seem like a bug. I have just given him another pill and he's cooled down a lot now. I guess if he's still poorly in the morning I'll have to keep him off school and call the docs.
