How to get 2yro to take antibiotics ?

So my 2yro has had a weeping ear on and off since beginning of December, been at the doctors 4 times about this. Given 2 lots of amoxicillin was told he had perforated ear drum. He had also had a virus - but 2 weeks ago after seeing a Dr instead of Nurse practitioner he took a swab to find out why it keeps coming back. Was contacted to be told prescription for more antibiotics- a different one, read the label and it said it's for middle ear infection. Son however refused to take it (It did taste horrendous) would not open his mouth and already spitting away as soon as I go near him!! Rang doctors and they have added banana flavour to the antibiotic- he still won't take It. It's not exactly nice but nowhere near as bad as the first. Any ideas on how I can get him to take it as his ear keeps weeping. I've tried a spoon and Calpol syringe!! We have held him, wrestling with him to get it down him !! Would it be safe to add some to a small cup of juice and let him drink it ? Or am I going have to ring doctors for another change ? Any advice appreciated.

Could you mix it in with some yoghurt or ice cream?

Hold him down and squirt it into his cheek using a syringe. It’s not nice but it needs to be done. My DS was a medicine refuser with frequent ear infections and this was what the doctor advised me to do.

Bribery? You can have a chocolate button afterwards? Two chocolate buttons? Three chocolate buttons AND watch Paw Patrol? Pretty sure this is the approach that worked for us

I mixed it with an inch or so of Coke in a cup, it was the only thing that worked (literally just posted about this on another thread!). You could use sugar free cola of course, but a mouthful won't hurt either way.

Several mouthfuls of chocolate ice cream, then shove in the ab in a syringe and another immediate spoonful of ice cream.

Or chocolate.

Something to coat the taste buds before the ab. Ice cream deadens taste a bit.

If mixing it in something doesn’t work, you obviously have to make sure what ever it is mixed in is all eaten.

Head lock, syringe into side of cheek at the back. Then lots of praise and a chocolate button. Sometime you just have to do it. It’s horrible but it has to be done.

Bribery here tends to work. Our son has been on several foul antibiotics for skin infections. We said he could choose a small treat to hold while we have him the antibiotics. It worked. Treats ranged from a Rich Tea biscuit, a jelly baby and he even asked for grapes a few times! The I pet ant thing is that medicine gets down so put aside any worries of unhealthy treats. He also got to the point where no bribe was needed!

Daisy - Have tried holding him down and the syringe - he just refuses to open his mouth. We've tried tipping his head back and opening his mouth he just starts spitting it away !! It doesnt bother so much that its not a nice thing to do - he needs them its for his own good he's just so good at refusing to open his mouth. Yesterday I ended up wearing more of it than he swallowed

Maxiflump /Don't... - I think I will try mixing it with yoghurt/ice cream and may be his drink and see how we get on he has to have 5ml 4 times a day !!!
