How many is too many?

This is not stealth boast about potty training & genuine question about frequency of wees.
My just 2 year old has successfully potty trained this week, but the frequency and amount of wee doesn’t seem possible. First daughter, not sure if that makes a difference & 6 months earlier to PT then previous children.
Today she has done 22 wees in the potty. By 11am she had done about 10? Normal or something to worry about? Yesterday was similar, she can wee on demand & then quite regularly throughout the day.
So not to dripfeed we do have a blood sugar machine at home & was tempted to test her in the morning, but just wanted to see if this is normal or on one end of normal?
Fluids 5 oz of milk twice a day and normal cups of water in between. Hope I haven’t left any key information out.

Have you measured the urine volume? Maybe she isn't really toilet trained but just pushing out lots of 'dribbles' as opposed to storing up full bladder and then going? I found ds1 did this (I trained too early). He wasn't really toilet trained as he was constantly emptying his bladder iyswim? Toilet training for me is about holding urine until bladder is full and then recognising the need to go.

Potty is about half full or weeing for a good/normal amount of time. She is playing or watching TV then says that she needs it and then goes. If we ask her to go and she doesn’t need it she will say she doesn’t need it or sit on the potty and then say no, no wees. So she is reliable weeing. It has been a week now, it just seems a lot of urine.

I think that sounds a lot too. I have no idea what's average though - might be worth a call to the HV?

Seems a lot to me too, but I’d guess there’s a fair amount of variation amongst us all. If I had one to hand I’d do the blood sugar test out of curiosity.

Honestly it is a proper amount of wee, enough to tip out into the loo and it pours out...and my husband and I had been making light of how many wees, but tonight with some family history we talked about testing and I said I would ask here. In case it is just that she is small, with small bladder and drinking lots. By 8am she had done 5 wees & we started counting. Yesterday was similar.

Just did a bit of experimenting with liquid and where the smallest amount of liquid normally goes to in the potty and it seems the smallest wee is about 40mls but average more than that.
No idea if that is normal, will google...

Did her nappies used to be saturated or did she need changing a lot? Because it seems strange that it's just coincided with potty training...
if she isn't drinking more I wouldn't be too concerned re diabetes, do you have any urine sticks you could use and just check the urine?

The only urine sticks I have are for keytones. To test her it would be finger prick test, but think I will do it first thing.

We have always noticed she asks for water/drinks but sometimes i think it is because she can (talks well for age, sentences and I think/thought just copies the older ones & can reach the kids plastic cups/plates drawer so goes quite regularly to ask for a drink.

Hard to recall with the nappies as a) the nappies/pampers absorb very well & would change her quite regularly rather than waiting to see a big nappy if that makes sense.

She is at nursery two days and this was first week going on the potty there and even at pick up they said she had done loads of wees on the potty. I know loads is not scientific.

She does not seem more tired then normal so hopefully nothing to concerned about.

The fasting sugars are the last thing to go. If there is an issue - which there likely isn't - you would be more likely to see if after a meal or in the evening when the pancreas becomes sluggish.

Were there chocolate rewards involved? I know a child who used to split her wee into lots of small wees as each wee earnt a smartie, and she wanted 2/3/4.
She clearly had better control than she was letting on!

It does sound a lot. DD2 was trained at 20 months and wees on average 6 times a day. Always been the same since potty training.
DD1 is nearly 4 and goes 3-4 times a day but she really doesn’t drink enough! She was potty trained just after her second birthday and again, the number of times she goes in a day has always been pretty much the same.

Ok - no food rewards, gold pirate coins at the start of the week only to be met with I don’t need that so no rewards.

We have found lots of urine calculators online and basically it sounds like she is weeing a lot. But she is on nutramigen so wondering if that has a lot of sugars that she is then weeing out.

Thanks to poster who said fasting is last to go, will test after food, I am sure they will be fine as no other symptoms or certainly nothing that is a change.

Thanks to all for replying.

Her BM’s were completely normal after food at 5.5 so that is good news. She does have a cold, no other UTI symptoms (temp or pain) but will keep an eye on frequency and mention it to HV/GP if continues.

Was that two hours after or sooner?
Sounds fine which is good.

Wasn’t two hours, is that the best indicator?
Still weeing a lot and reliably on the potty with good/normal volume, I measured the first two of the day and they were 50mls.
She is a bit under the weather at the moment so will keep an eye and see how she goes. But the plus note - very happy she is out of nappies and telling us when she needs the potty, even if that feels like every 20 minutes Grin

I think anything around an hour and a half to two hours after is a good indicator.
Anyway at 5.5 whenever it was it can't have been blood sugars causing the problems!
Maybe it's just a novelty right now?!
