Hi
My dd is 9& we've noticed today that she has a black mark come on both big toes.one is larger than the other.she had no trauma of any kind that we can remember& they weren't there Sunday night when we cut the nails.she had same thing on a middle toe that stayed for ages until it eventually grew out.it was painful when we cut it& the top of that nail has thickened.I just put it down to her stubbing her toe but now these have come back on her big toes!
Do you think it's a fungal infection? They don't appear to be painfulat the moment. I've been Googling& scared myself!
Dp thinks we should just take her to chemist but I think we should take her to gp.
Any advice?

Do her shoes all fit her well? Black toenails are bruises, and if she hasn't banged them or dropped anything on them my first thought was her shoes may not be fitting her correctly, especially as it's on both feet.

GP for that one. Nails can be a big indication of general health.

Thanks for yr reply.
Her school shoes fit her OK if just a slight gap at the back.her other shoes are all fine.
The first time it happened though she didn't have these new school shoes.
