How tall is your 8 year old girl?

Hi,

Just curious really, my 8 year old daughter is 155.5cms and 46kg which puts her in the 125th percentile! She's been investigated for any hormonal/growth issues and everything is medically fine so she's just naturally tall.
Is your daughter tall for her age?

My 7 year old DD (5 months past her birthday) is tall but not off the scale tall. She's 137cm and is amongst the tallest in her year at school but not the tallest. She's following my pattern; I was 5' 7" when I started secondary school just before 12 and I'm still that height now. She might get to be a few inches taller than me but I expect her to stop growing early like me. Time will tell.

Are you and her dad tall?

My DD is 8 and 144cm - haven't weighed her for a while but she isn't overweight. I grew fast, towering over everyone at primary school but then never got any taller from around year 6

That's very tall - my son is 10.5 and about that height. Are you and her dad tall? I wouldn't worry about it tbh.

Dd is almost 7 and 130cm tall. She's one of the tallest in her class but not the tallest and mainly just moans she's not tall enough to do all the rides at theme parks!

I'm 5ft 4 but her dad is 6ft 4 and his sister is around 6ft. Like others have said I was considered tall for my age at primary and then everyone overtook me at secondary. She is going through puberty at the moment and has the appetite of a teenage boy too! I'm struggling to keep up with clothes etc, she has grown 6.5cm since Feb and 12cm since August last year! Although saying that, she has always been long even as a toddler - I was constantly asked why she wasn't walking by herself or why should still had a sippy cup, people wouldn't believe me when I said she was just 18 months. Bless her, she's taller than most of the year 6 in her school but it doesn't bother her although other kids have teased her for having size 5 feet.

I'm a similar height to you and my DH is 6ft5. DS was 158cm when he first turned 8, he was 11 in May and is just over 170cm - shoe size 11!

I also was very tall until I was 11/12 and I think DS may be going the same way...

My DD was roughly 130cm last year (she's 9 now) - we measured her for her car seat.

I was tallest in my class at this age - but I stopped growing at 5'6". Your Dh and his Dsis are very tall - she's probably got the tall gene.

My dd3 is 8 and is 130cm, my 10 yr old dd is 129cm though!

I was very tall as a child, always seemed head and shoulders above everyone else, but by the time I was around 13/14 everyone caught up with me, and now I'm a pretty average 5'8. She may always be tall or her growth might slow down. The important thing is that she is in proportion and you know she is healthy.
There's a girl in my dd2s class (age 10) and I genuinely thought she was a helper teacher, she's taller than me. Compared to my dd2 who is very short and petite for her age you can see how different they are but both normal and healthy.

Mine was around 120 at 8. One really useful test is a bone age assessment where an xray is taken of the wrist. Some girls stop growing at 9 or 10 and others keep growing til 16. If short, but your bone age is in advance of your age, you'll stop growing soon.
If it's behind, you'll keep growing longer. If you know that, you'll know if she'll likely finish growing at 5ft3 or 6ft5 or anywhere in between. There is a treatment to slow down growth in conditions that cause excessive growth. It's definitely worth knowing while there's something that could be down IF there's an issue.

My DD is almost 7. In February she was 128cm tall and now she is 133cm. She is the tallest girl in her class and is also one of the oldest. Buying shoes and clothing is becoming an expense at the rate that she's growing!

Our GP said she that isn't concerned at the moment because I am tall (I'm 5 foot 7).

Mine is tiny, 120cm-ish (haven't measured her but she's just outgrowing 6-7 clothes which are 122cm) and just over 20kg. She was by far the smallest in year 3, I doubt it will have changed next week. Grin

There are a couple of very tall children in her year though, some nearly as tall as me.

I'm not tall btw, same height as you - but was v short in primary school then caught up with the other girls at some point in secondary.

Mine is about 138cm and 40kg. She is tall and pretty chunky compared to others in her class.

DD is 7 and a half and was around 130cm a month or so ago and 32kg, I'm tall at 5ft 9'' and her dad is about the same, but in my family I'm short with 3 siblings 6ft, 6ft 2'' and 6ft 5'' (2 sisters and a brother), so I was expecting her to be tall.
Having to get 10-11 yr old school clothes for her moving into yr 3!

She can easily grow a few cm in a couple of months, so I can see her being close to 150cm at 8

Almost 8, she is 140cm and 30kg and is very tall for her age. Wears 11-12 clothes in yr 3.

My daughter is just 9 and 136cm. She is one of the shorter in her class but also the youngest. As a toddler she was always tall. I think it's that different height ranges are starting to show by 8 and it's all normal.
