Is is strange for a child to complain about being tired all the time?

DD (6, only child) complains all the time about being tired BUT doesn't seem to get too tired to climb the stairs etc.

She does seem to tire out more easily than her friends sometimes.

Mind you, she's complained about being tired like this since she was 3!

We took her to the doctor then and they ran blood tests and said she was fine. The complaining eventually went away, but now it's been back for a few months.

She eats and drinks normally and gets enough sleep.

I just don't know if it's time to take her back to the doctor again...

Other than the complaining, how does this tiredness manifest?

Sounds like it might saying it might just be habit of hers. Is it something that you or her dad say a lot? I remember my friend being worried that her child always said he was tired then realised he was just copying her as she was always saying it too.

Could she need glasses? My dd used to get so tired but when she developed a squint we got her eyes tested and she needed glasses. She's been much less tired ever since!

Whooops, I forgot to come back to this.

That's interesting Missmiller, she does have a squint which is being treated with glasses, she got a new prescription last week and has been MUCH better since...

How does she sleep? My 5 yr old was diagnosed with sleep apnoea which has manifested in tiredness during the day. She needed her tonsils and adenoids removing

Maybe she needs a thyriod test.
Or a test for a vitamin deficiency or an allergy

I agree about adenoids / tonsils.

My dd always seemed to need more sleep than others, she had a constant snotty nose, she snores, but no apnea.
She had her adenoids out due to snoring and snot once she was 4. It made the World of difference to her. She also suddenly had more energy. Although she never complained of tiredness it was remarkable to see the difference after her adenoids were out. She quality of sleep had improved.
