Short dd- do I need to worry?

dd is 14 (and 3/4 :) ) and is 150cm, so not exactly tiny but still, I'm 160cm and her dad is about 178cm so presumed she'd end up in the middle somewhere.
She was born in the middle centile then kind of fell centiles and carried on around the 9th centile, always been on the small side so not really worried too much. She could just be small but wondered whether there is cause for concern or not?
She started her periods 2 1/2 years ago and had a bit of a growth spurt but still shorter than all her friends and family, think she's been the same for a year or so.
Just kind of wondered whether to get her checked by a gp or not? If she's small then so be it, the best packages come in small :D
Anyone else with smaller than average children or are you a smaller adult?

My DD is that height...she's small in her year group and she's 150cm....she's about to turn 13. I'm 5.6 and her Dad is 5.8...so we're not giants but her Grandparents are all very short bar my Dad at 6.4....we aren't worried...we think she's just got that short gene from her Grandmothers and paternal Granddad.

She's only 14, i really wouldn't worry! We keep growing till we're between 18-25. She may shoot up 3 inches in a year!

I dont think its typical for girls to keep growing until 18 let alone 25. I reached my adult height by 16.

Dd2 took a sprout at 15 she is now 5ft 4 she was the same height as your dd at 14 i am 4ft 11 so any added height for dds was a bonus really

Most girls stop growing by 15. Have her feet stopped growing? Because if they have, then she probably won't put on much more height. My friend's daughter is only 4ft 10in and hasn't quite matched her mother, who is 4ft 11in. Her father is 5ft 8in, so she clearly took the small gene from her mother's family.

My dm is that height. Your dd may have to ask for help to reach things in the supermarket sometimes. (I have to do that sometimes and I'm a few inches taller!) And shop in the petite sections/get used to shortening her trousers. But I don't think it's anything to worry about.

She may still grow a bit more. I think I was a little older when I reached my adult height - between 15 and 16 I think.

Being short is a pain sometimes the reaching especially but it isn't a real problem

I'm only 154 cm and I'm 44 so unlikely to grow now! My parents and my sister are all average height. My husband is 6ft and my son is very tall but my daughter is tiny (9yrs)! I really wouldn't worry and being small is now big deal bar finding trousers to fit!

How long has she been that height ? If she has grown a bit in the last year or do then she might still have more growing to do. Also as Littlecandle said, are her feet growing ? If they are then that shows she is still growing.

I was probably that height around that age. I was always small until I was almost 15. I shot up about 6 inches over 6 months , to the height I am now, 5foot 5 inches.

Dd1 is almost 13 and she was the same, one of the smallest girls but she has taken a massive growth spurt recently and is taller than my mum and mil. I'd say she is about 5foot 3. Think she'll grow a bit more as her feet are still growing and have went up a full size last 6mths or so.

Those who say " she's only 14 don't worry "are misguided. 2yrs post menarche she's almost certainly stopped growing, maybe another cm. she's very unlikely to have another spurt I'm afraid.

Both my girls are petite at 5 foot/ 5 foot 1 inch and stopped growing by about 13.

Genes are funny things as ds towers over all the family at 6" 3.

Don't think you've anything to worry about. If she's worried she could have a chat with your Gp. Unfair to give her false hope that she'll get much taller though. She's well wishing normal fora fully grown woman.

There could be a reason for her not reaching her genetic potential (mid parental height). That's what they check against when monitoring children's growth. It can be complicated to investigate though, and if she's otherwise well, it might not be helpful to her to take her to the doctors. I know thyroid issues are sometimes not detected til after growth stops and coeliac disease can often be without obvious symtoms. Both can restrict growth. Of course, it could just be that she takes after a shorter relative...as long as she's healthy, short isn't a problem!
