Any one with a viral wheeze sufferer?

Hi all.

My DS(3.4) was diagnosed with a viral wheeze in October. Since then he's had a number of incidents, three of which after the initial overnight admission have needed hospital treatment. We seem to be able to manage it at home most times but sometimes not.

I'm getting so frustrated, I feel so awful for Lo as he'll just wake up with the wheeze or wake in the night with it. No prewarning and not every time he has a cold or bug.

I'm not sure why I'm posing tbh. Currently sat in the children's ward again after having a couple of good weeks with once again a wheezey and coughing child.

Am I alone? Anyone got any good ideas about how to get him to take the prodisanole?

Am I unreasonable to get frustrated and stressed by it?

No, it is upsetting and distressing. Mine grew out of it. That's all I can offer!

My little boy (3 years, 9 months) suffered like this. We were in and out of hospital every month for about a year. He would get it every time he got a cold, and every time was put on nebuliser. Only had to stay in 3 or 4 times though.
He was put on a preventer inhaler (the brown one) and we haven't had a problem since March 2016 (touch wood!)
He has 2 puffs in the morning and 2 at night, we also use the blue inhaler when he gets a cold (he has had plenty over the year, but no wheeze)
Not sure if he has grown out of it or if it is the preventer doing its job.
Have to say we have become a bit more lax with inhaler as my gut tells me he is growing out of it.

We had regular problems but they've got very uncommon over the past year and a bit (hes now 5 years old). School have a blue inhaler just in case, but we've only had one wheezing episode since last sept. Hope yours also gets less frequent soon!

DS has collected my propensity for this sadly
It's awful - they do improve with age but I'm still certain to get one with any upper respiratory viral infections. Steroids don't do much to protect.
Steam and ventolin are my best friends.

Another viral wheezer DC here. Spent 4 days in hospital with her last week- Tuesday to Friday. See saw breathing, GP put her on a nebuliser and called an ambulance. We are working our way down the ventolin weaning chart- treatment every 4 hours. She has had 7 hours of diarrhoea today and vomited twice. Feel so helpless for her.

With the prednisolone i just dissolve it in 2ml of water add in a table spoon of Ella's kitchen or innocent smoothie and pull it all up in a syringe. DD is 14 months and a battle enough to do her ventolin puffs

With the weaning chart, the three times we've been given new ones they have all been different. Why?? We have extended him to another day of 10 every 4hrs as he's still quite bad but getting better.

Ames how many episodes did your DC have until you got the brown one as are they wheezey even when unwell? Not that I want one but the Dr seems reluctant to look at any other support

He has never been wheezy when well. It must have been 8 to 10 incidents of viral wheeze. We were reluctant to use it at first but the last episode was really bad, 2 nights in hospital and was really unwell.
It was the consultant at the hospital that decided he needed the brown inhaler. Xx

Oh right, thanks Ames. I don't want him on anything​ he doesn't really need but I'm frustrated for him and stressed and selfishly frustrated for us. Another weekend lost.

Hey! My son has suffered too. Also gets a lot of croup. It's the constant coughing that does me. It panics me rotten. I so know how u feel xx

It's awful my dd (7) was admitted to hospital when he was 5 and spent 3nights and 4 days in there, it was one of the worst time of my life, we have 2 inhalers for her a brown preventative one and a blue one, they help a lot, it has got a bit better as she has got older, and she was only in hospital the once, but I do keep her off of school if she has even a little bit of a wheeze because it worsens when she's running around with her friends, she has an inhaler at school too which I've said they are to give to her even if she only has a cough.
