Red outline around molluscum

DS (12) has had what I (and the GP about 8 months ago) think are molluscum contagiosum.....however, he now has a red area around the area on back of knee where they are most prolific.

As you can see in the picture, the red area has definite solid outlines which is strange.
On google images, I can only find one image which is similar but not as angry.

Any ideas....or different thoughts on whether it's something else?
Are rashes such as this common with molluscum?

It's a bit like ringworm or impetigo rash isn't it?
He has another small sera opunder left armpit that comes and goes with a definite wobbly ring shape but that too comes and goes and I thought it was related to perspiration.

Actually it doesn't look like impetigo or ringworm.

My child had molluscum but it didnt look like that. I would go back to the GP and / or consider calling 111.

Has he redness come up recently? Keep a close eye in case it's infected, maybe draw around the red to check whether it's spreading.

My son had molluscum for around 18 months and it never went like that, not even on his eczema patches.
They usually look quite pearl like. I'd definitely take him back to GP.

It's hard to see the actual molluscum in the photos but they are pearly with gunk in the centre as described online.
Dd had them for aboutn18momths but not as many and never the rash.
I'll book him an appointment at the GP's then.

DS had something similar, but not as extreme, inside his elbow. The pharmacist took a look, and said it was the molloscum.

Aha so your DS also had the rash part?
Thank you.
I'll get it checked out.

Did you get answers on this? My child has the exact same thing on her tummy/side and it started with just the mollscum bumps 6 months ago but the rash came after a few months and keeps getting worse and I can't get answers on it.

Just seen the last post.
All of the molloscum almost gone now.
The rash cleared up and he now only has a few warts left.....although he has picked them and one or two look slightly dodgy and red.
Boys!!

I don't know if you are still on here verbena37 but if you are I am going through the same thing with my 6 year old on his leg. Did you ever get to the bottom of the rash? Did you need antibiotics?
